Backup : Mybook or drive plus enclosure ?

is it better to get something like the WDG1C5000 Mybook - or buy a better drive and an external enclosure?

Ive a desktop and a laptop and wish to make the data available to both ?

Ill be taking the backup drive with me when I stay at another house along with laptop.....

if enclosure+drive is better idea can you spec me the two please ?

I'd investigate getting the enclosure and drive separately. I'm considering moving from my Lacie drive to one of these:

Unlike the IcyBox USB/SATA combo cases this one allows you to use either the eSATA or USB2 interfaces depending on what is supported by the PC.

For a drive I'm looking at using a spare Hitachi 7K250 but if I was buying new I'd be going for a Seagate 7200.10 at the moment.

is there a problem with the Lacie ?

or are the external caddies just as good - think Ill take the plunge withe the seagate ...

No problem other than it's USB2, I've got eSATA on my board which I want to take advantage of.
