Hello

I am thinking of using the following setup

2 x 500 Gb HDs in RAID 0 for OS
2 x 2 Tb HDS in RAID 1 for Data

The only question left is how to backup the RAID 0 array?

A nightly backup perhaps?

But what software/HD would I need to do this?

Thanks

any help?

Setup
2 x 500 Gb HDs in RAID 0 for OS
2 x 2 Tb HDS in RAID 1 for Data

and then a backup solution for the RAID 0 array using another hard drive. What size would it need to be and how would i successfully perform the backups.

Id like to store daily images on the backup maybe?

Do some research into other RAID configs you might be able to use. RAID 0+1 / RAID 5 etc. There are configs that have the benefits of RAID 0 for speed with additional fault tolerance/backup. It depends on the disks you are using but you might find a solution that suits you.

What's the amount of change on the RAID0 array? Does it change enough to warrant a daily backup?

How are you planning on backing up the content of the RAID1 array?

What about using one of the 2Tb disks as a backup for the other three and only having a single data drive? Obviously this only works if you've got less than 2Tb of data across the three other disks.

Thank you for the replies

I am aware of other raid configurations such as raid 10 and 01 but I can only afford the 2 disks which limits me to raid 0 or 1
Obviously im going to purchase a 3rd disk to backup the raid 0 and then options like raid 5 come into play but I want the fast access of RAID 0 with a simple backup solution.

With backing up the RAID 1s I am eventually going to invest in an external 2tb raid array with a NAS like synology or something.

Thanks for your help
