Who actually uses it!?

I hear a lot of people say things like "the new version PS3 had better have BC blah blah blah" but does anyone actually use it?

Personally, I havent touched any of my Original Xbox games since having a 360. I can't understand why anyone would want to play a last-gen game on a current-gen console  surely the point of getting a new (current) console is for the new games

This is out to everyone, not just PS3 owners :)

BC doesn't appeal to me at all but I know a few people who have a large library of previous gen games and still want to play them on their next gen consoles.

Nope, I played Halo 2 a fair amount, and dabbled in the old THPS and SSX games, but tbh most games have been bettered in each genre so I tend to stick with the new ones.

There are a ton of decent previous gen games out there. I've always avoided consoles in the past, so the 360 is my first in yonks and even I can see that the Xbox has heaps of quality titles I'd love to play.

Having said all that:
Halo 2 which I purchased was crap.
San Andreas which I purchased was crap (vs PC anyway)
Fahrenheit which I purchased was so so but I'd already finished it on the PC, which also looked better.

I would have used it on the ps3, i own an ntsc ps2 so i dont have a lot of games for it, i would have loved to catch up on a few games that i missed and they would have also been upscaled which would have been nice on my hdtv.

I use it on my wii sometimes to play Smash bros melee and my brother uses it for soul calibur 2
Xbox 360 wise it was useful when it first came out to play halo 2, though it barely (If ever) get any BC done on it.
I would use it on my ps3 if it wasnt a 40gb one to play MGS 3 but other than that I wouldnt use it.

Never used it probally never will.

Surely if you have a "big collection of last gen games" then you also have a Last gen console to play them on.

Ok so they may be upscaled but it is not gonna make a huge diffrence.

Using it on my ps3 for a limited number of ps2 games since I never owned a ps2. I did have a few gc games for my wii though when I had one and spent a fair bit of time playing gc games which are still good fun :)

Not bothered about BC myself, I used my 60Gb PS3 for God of War II but that was it, I now have a 40Gb and couldn't care less.

Besides, if I REALLY want to play a PS2 title I can do that via emulation on my computer and just drag the emulator over to my TV. (PC, dual monitors, TV is one of them)

There is a difference between the need for backwards compatability on the PS3 and the 360. This difference being that the PS2 still (albeit very little) has support. One such example would be Odin Sphere, that only surfaced in the UK quite recently, i REALLY want to play this game, but i'm having to hold out in the hope that software backwards compatability is introduced.

That and i'm replaying all the decent Final Fantasy games, nearly finished FFVII, i'm hoping that they've implemented this backwards compat before i get to FFX.

On the 360 BC does not bother me at all. There are a couple of Abe games I might like to get round to playing but that's about all.

For the PS3 it's a huge issue for me. I don't want one til I can get a new one with BC. My wife has a huge stash of singstar buzz and other party pap that she wont let me ditch the ps2.

I want the ps3 for blu ray alone. She wants it for singstar but wont lose the ps2 ones. Not enough room for them both.

It was also be incredibly stupid to buy a 40 to find out the 80 has it again. Look at the 60 prices 2nd hand with BC.

It would make the 40's next to worthless, I wouldn't put it past sony to pull such a stunt so I will wait.

I had my old PS2 and a load of games for it and a BC 60gig PS3.. .Never really played any of the old games on the PS3 so I decided to sell the ps2 with its games and put the money towards a 2nd PS3. I did keep some of the old retro titles like a Tekken or Ace Combat, just for memories.. But again I've not really fired them up on the BC PS3. It's something I like to have, but wouldn't miss if it were gone.

dont use backwards compatability on either ps3, wii or 360
i did buy counterstrike for about 3 quid to see how it played but only ever put it in once
i could not belive how bad it was!

why not in theory,

but in reality I own a PS2 (which I haven't touched in years) and secondly I did not buy a PS3 to play old games.

PS: I have X360 which does this and only ever played Forza 1 on it a few times when I got it at launch and there weren't that many games. Honestly BC is completely useless for my needs

I like to have the option. I still play PS1 games on my PS2 from time to time, and Gamecube games on my Wii. Just saves having to plug more consoles in for the odd game.

I've got hordes of unfinished PS2 games, I have my PS2 hooked up to my monitor and the (60gb) PS3 in the living room, currently got Persona 3 on the go on the PS3 and Shadow Hearts 2 on the PS2.
