Backwards Compatibility....

Since I rarely sell my games on I like to atleast have the option to play my old games on the current gen console, especially if they offer things like upscaling or texture smoothing (PS1 games on the PS2 for example). Not that I use it very often these days, it's still handy to have when I fancy a trip down memory lane without the hassle of setting the old console up.

I've made use of BC on my PS2, PS3 and Wii and if I owned an Xbox I'd definately use it on that too to play some of the games I've missed out on.

Yeah used it quite a bit on the PS3.

GOW1 + 2
Destroy All Humans 1 + 2
Silent Hill Origins
RE4
Ghosthunter and many others look a lot better via the upscaled/smoothed PS3 image plus it loads a little quicker as well in places.

Nope never use it and I don't think I will either tbh. I told my brother I will swap my 60GB PS3 for his 40GB when he eventually gets it as he would use the BC.

I haven't used it (haven't had a backwards compatible console) but I can see why

Some of my previous housemates have had a PS2 and they've let me get some games for it (which they didn't want) such as 24, LC:Stories and VC:Stories. I'm also after Bully (or whatever it was called for the PS2 :) )

I'm off to buy a PS3 on Friday anyway but if it had BC that would have been a big plus. Even without it, I'm still going to buy it (the 60GB version was largely software based and didn't work with 24 anyway) and probably buy a cheap PS2. It's nice to have fewer consoles plugged into the TV though

tried PGR2 on my 360 and it crashed it

tried max payne 2 but got a message saying that the cable i was using correct to output the video.

I would very much like to use my 360 with my old xbox games but i cant because BC is ****

I've got a 60gb PS3 and i use it to play PS1/2 games more than i do PS3 games.

As for 360 BC, i think i may of used it once or twice.

Used it because I have yet to finish Halo 2, I have got Halo 3 and have never played it because I'd rather finish the older games first.

On PS3 there's a massive library of classic PSX and PS2 games that are still very playable. The older Xbox games don't interest me all that much to be honest, Fable and Halo, And thats it.

As the 360 is my first console, have been using it to play some of the old xbox games.

So far have played Halo 1 & 2, The Suffering and Ninja Gaiden.

Still intend to play The suffering 2 and Jade Empire.

Sure there are others that I will give a go too. Its only been couple of months since getting the 360 though, so am still playing a lot of catch up with current gen games, never mind having to catchup on previous gen.

PS3 60Gb with BC

I never had a PS2 so I used it with

Kindom Hearts 2
GT4
Burnout Revenge
Black
God of War

It's nice to catch up on some classics i never played

I have used it on the 360 to play Jade Empire and Fable as I never owned an original xbox and missed out on those games. Both titles I gave up on after a while because they honestly run like ****. Wii BC is flawless and a great asset to have, when it works well I'm all for it.

Some old xbox games are still decent, mercenaries, GTA series, I prefer fifa 07 to the next gen efforts as well.

I've been playing a bit of San Andreas on my 360.

Actually thats a great idea, as I missed out on SA I could get it and play on the 360 - although I do still have the Xbox under my TV too.

Thanks for the great response guys, I think this is a really interesting thread; having a quick scan through it's pretty much 50/50 on the importance of BC and the inclusion or lack of it doesn't influence peoples console decision.

re: 360, I remember putting Halo 2 in and trying to join an online game and it having a fit because the updater can't handle the game running through vga (in game it's fine), I looked at the TV stand, looked at the Halo 2 box and put the disc back in the box, there's no way I was digging around behind there and pulling the 360 component cable through and unplugging the Wii just so I could run an update.

Yeah some games don't like VGA. I think thats an unavoidable issue. You just have to use another cable to update the game, playing itself is fine though.
