Today I received a slightly early birthday present in the form of a Samsung F1 750GB. Excitedly I immediately shut down my computer and proceeded to insert it into a 3.5" bay. First thing I noticed was that it was irritating to have to remove all my RAM before I could slide it in. This wasn't the case with my other hard drive (some 160GB drive); is the F1 bigger than most other drives?

And secondly, no two screw holes would align with the slot for screws at the same time, so I have had to settle with a single screw in each hole. So now I have this constant, "whur, pause, whur, pause, whur" coming from my computer. Has this happened to many of you, or is my £24 case just too cheap?

(On a side note, tried to connect a friend's DVD drive to my 4-pin molex, very lazily not even turning the power off, and started a small fire within my P.C case... was both terrifying and amusing at the same time.)

All these 3.5 and 5.25 devices follow closely the defined form factors. I wouldn't expect to see it in hd's but length is the only dimension where I've seen any variation.

The screw holes should also conform to the defined standard. Perhaps your case is slightly misshapen ? Due to the fire perhaps :D Any pics ? :D:D

From my personal experience (:o) hotplugging Molex connectors often gives a spark, you have to make sure the pins are properly aligned and do it in one quick movement, otherwise what happens to me is the PSU turns off. Never had a fire though
SATA connectors don't have that problem though :D
