Bad performance in arma 2

IVD does work online. even if the server forces a viewdistance of 1000 to 5000 MAX, you can still use IVD to hit those top 10k numbers. and i believe IVD has a PvP and PVE? options. No idea what the PvP set does, i presume lets you change view distance and ground detail but wont remove the grass...?

The addon 'Dynamic View Distance' (DVD) is great, it allows you to set a minimum, preferred and maximum view distance and FPS. It also allows you to configure other options so when you use binoculars or jump inside aircraft your view distance increases. Check it out: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=13304

Yes, early on with Arma 2 I used DVD, a very good mod. I also used MWVD (mouse wheel view distance) for a while but didn’t like it much..
I have Arma 2 running really smooth on reasonably high fps, so I find that IVD is nice if you just need to tweak occasionally.

DVD is great if your battling fps problems as it automatically alters to suit fps.

yeah im the same, i think having a self changing view distance would tick me off no end! I have my set numbers and they perform great. 3-4k on the ground (terrain dependant) 4k flying transport. 6k flying/gunning gunship/tank. 10k for special circumstance :)

Jack, up for some joining me on Arma? I'm thinking about checking out that Day-Z mod from the other thread, I've never been a fan of 'zombies' but there's much hype around it so I may as well give it a go. I've not seen you on Steam much, hop on and I'll share TeamSpeak details with you. Or anybody else for that matter (Steam handle is MissileMoose).

Just got another part of my order, the case (CoolerMaster COSMOS II). Will post back next week with some performance reviews.

Currently using my old rig, will be building my new one next week when I get my graphics card.

Old: AMD Phenom II X6 1090t @ 4GHz (H70) | (XFX) AMD Radeon HD 6870 CrossfireX | 4GB DDR3 1600MHz

vs

New: Intel i7-3820 @ 4GHz (H100) | (Gainward Phantom) Nvidia GTX 680 4GB | 16GB DDR3 1600MHz

I know it's a huge difference, but it may help some people. :)

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but set the 'Video Memory' to 'Default', rather than 'Very High'. I read somewhere that very high limits you to around 756MB, but the default setting just makes use of all your VRAM. Also try adding /high to the launch parameters. Windows XP compatibility mode also improved my performance a little, as did changing pre-rendered frames to 4 in Nvidia control panel.

After a lot of tweaking, i ended up with around 90-100 fps stable in dayz multiplayer with the following launch options:

"-mod=F:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2;Expansion;ca;f:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\@dayz" -nosplash -winxp -world=empty -cpuCount=4 /high

And the following in-game settings:

A888AF1D329655CE5618D240449DA349CB214170

My specs are an i5 2500k @ 4.7ghz, 16gb 1600mhz ram, and 2 1gb gtx460's @ 830mhz.

Hope this helps! This mod is incredible.
