After seeing the DayZ mod thread i reinstalled arma 2 but i'm getting low fps in cities and i don't know why.

I loaded up mission 4 harvest red because it starts in chernogorsk

FPS at 24 but GPU usage is 28%

CPU usage is also low.

only getting 31 FPS here too on high preset with no aa and no post.

Is this just me are is this game just like this could any of you with specs close to mine try loading up mission 4 harvest red to see how mine compares.

your setting are too high

set some to high or normal , very high is too much

Too high for what tho whats bottle necking me both GPU and CPU usage is low.

If you tell me thats just how the game runs than i'll just have to deal with lame ass 30fps in towns on med/high but my computer has GPU and CPU power going unused.

i tried the high preset that is mostly normal and high with no aa and i get 31fps.

you have a 580 and a 2500k what settings do you play on and what fps do you get on that mission?

Not sure this will work for you pal but a couple of things to try as I have and my gpu usage is 90%+ is add -maxMem=2047 -cpuCount=4 to the target line in your game shortcut and set video memory to default in the settings menu as this lets the game determine how much memory to use and not limit it.

whats your GPU?

By looking at your in-game menu it looks like the old Arma 2 type, do you have Operation Arrowhead?

Make sure that Arma 2 is upto date 1.11 patch for just Arma 2 or 1.60 for Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead combined.

All the best tweaks and fixes have gone the arrowhead route so you would be best running that.

If you get your A2 upto date but don't have OA, then get ‘Landtex’, ‘Sap Clutter’ & ‘IVD’ mods, Landtex and Sap clutter reduce the Chenarus foliage down and IVD is ‘instant view distance’ you can change simply in-game and reduce your view distance in towns or cities to improve fps..

If on the other hand you have Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead, there is a lot more you can do…

Fxaa & smaa is now built into A2 so you could use the game config to help, need to know what you have ?

This thread may help as well..

i do have Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead i was just using that for the map

I run it all on very high 10,000 view distance at 1920x1200 and it holds 55-60fps fine
I do find turning antialiasing down to 4x helps a lot and lowering particle effects.

Im also using a z68 gigabyte mobo, but a 2500k @4.8 and sli 470's so similar speed wise

Copson... were you in socom? If not ignore me!

Anyway yeah arrowhead came with a lot of performance updates. with a system like yours you should be getting a lot more. Im certain if you ran the game fully patched as combined arms, and put video memory to default you should be smooth sailing.

You getting that kind of fps in Chernogorsk?

In the open my fps is fine and my GPU usage is maxed out.

I get the same fps in OA Fully updated too.

In OA on the e08 Benchmark i get average 61fps vsync was off on these settings

breadturbo could you try running the benchmark and tell me what you get?

Also overclocking graphics card doesn't show any improvement but over clocking cpu shows slight improvement

Have a read of this and it should hopefully help. I have the following settings and have tested A2 running a lot and these work very well for me.

Atoc setting I have found either ‘3’ or ‘6’ to be good.
For the fxaa settings, go into your Arma 2 folder (your docs) and open your game config file, obviously back up first, then I have the following settings;

AToC=6; (could try ‘0’ here first see how it goes, however it will make the game look a bit anaemic )
PPAA=2;
PPAA_Level=2;

The PPAA settings help control the overall fxaa
In-game set your AA to low, you should now have the effect of more or less very high aa without the fps hit.

Also have a look in the Arma 2 main game directory for the folder called ‘Expansion’ open it up and then open up ‘Beta’ folder and have a look at the two ‘readme’ fxaa and smaa, these also shed some light on settings..

I would think on-line servers with Arma 2, would reduce view distance to around 1500 automatically, not sure..

.

yeah i think the default viewdistance online is 1500. But of course with the IVD mod you can change this on the fly. 1500 isnt enough unless its night time fallujah in a tight CQB environment.

But is it not set at 1500, I don’t think IVD would adjust it online only SP, not sure, never play on-line, but sure I have read that servers dictate the view distance..

Its funny they have around 150ish islands available to download for A2 OA, and 149ish of them would have been better to run the DayZ mod on than Chernarus...:D performance wise..
