Bad Teacher....really.

Talk about bringing children up with some manners.

No wonder so many kids turn out bad these days. I support strict teaching but telling a group of 5 year olds to 'shut up' is not giving them the right message. Punish them by keeping them in at break time or something like that. Shouting 'shut up' at a class of 5 year olds is poor teaching.

It's not a swear word but it is rude to tell someone to shut up.

Mmmmm. So kids 'turn out bad' nowadays with a lack of discipline in schools yet turned out as well rounded, respectful yet with a healthy fear of authority in the past when school was far more strict.

Methinks you have gotten things the wrong way round.

I was asaulted at school by the RE teacher when I was about 13\14, it was nicely swept under the rug. Extreme discipline but saying to kid 'shut up' is really not worth mentioning.

I am a supporter of strong discipline in schools. Shouting "shut up" is not discipline in my book. It's desperate, certainly for a class of 5 year olds.

As i said removal of playtime or making them clean the classroom would be more effective in my opinion.

To be honest though it doesn't really matter. The parents are the ones who really instill these traits and that's where things are going wrong in this society.

Most of my former teachers worked on class discipline. If a couple of kids misbehaved then the whole class got detention, this was the 80's tho.

And this i totally agree with. My point about the "shut up" is that it's not a good way to discipline. It's a very lazy short-term way of discipline which could in fact lead to negative traits.
