Ok Heres a guide to some TFT replacement policies
Hope this is of some use

{Belinea} Replace with either 4 scattered or 3 clustered pixels

{BenQ} Referring to the commercial standard of an LCD panel, when a single spot is over 50%, it is regarded as one spot (Red, Green and Blue Rule 1); when two adjacent spots are RG/GB/BR and are over 50%, the max. is 3 dark and 7 bright in the same screen (Rule 2). Please refer to API RGB LCD PANEL SPEC.

{Eizo} Will replace it on a 15" with 2 lit 2 unlit or 4 colour on a 17" that's 3 lit 3 unlit and 7 colour

{Hitachi} Will replace with any dead pixel's

{HP} Will only replace if there are 4 scattered faulty pixel's or 3 clustered

{Samsung} 6 dead pixel's allowed on a 15" or 9 on a 17"

{Sharp} Will replace class II monitors with 2 lit 2 unlit and class III monitors with 5 lit 15 unlit.

Good work for a guideline but returns in general are always dependant on individual circumstances and the indivdual aspects at time of purchasing also some sites notify about pixel return policies and these have to be taken into account regarding the transaction agreement.

Other issues:
Attitude, responsibility of person returning the goods, how they go about it / The condition of the returned product & its packaging / Its reported fault(s) justified for replacement or unjustified dependant on several factors/ How payment was made and what needs to be done for credit/replacement/refund.

Its all based on really how you & supplier deal with the matter and the conditions above. In a worst case you can always take a loss perhaps in returning or sell it on to somone less critical or more tolerant to pixels.

thanks Bluemoonmcfc, a useful addition to the sticky. I would be skeptical about Hitachi's return policy tho! and like Mr Latte has said, it can depend on other circumstances too, but a useful guideline nonetheless

L1730B

Hey you guys,

I've just noticed that LG have brought out a replacement for the L1710B, the L1730B.

I think its virtually the same, but with increased contrast ratio and new styling.

I just wondered whether any of you guys had seen one yet, and whether you think it is worth the extra £50 (L1710B now around £270). Is there any real difference?

Thanks,
Bigsmith

Here's a link

well if it has the 16ms AU panel then you already know performance wise it's gunna be top notch. IF the looks suit your needs and the price (which it should :)) then go for it, if not look for a different style TFT but you'll prob have the same panel in it in the end really anyway

and bismith2000, check this thread for more info on the LG1730B, but basically just same panel as 10 and 20 versions, but with new styling and a few fancy bits thrown in like swivel etc. Improved contrast and viewing angles too on the panel.

Hi peeps ended up getting myself a LG L1710B(U) i must say i am very pleased with, it this is my first TFT and am sure it won't be the last. Got mine for £250 and it came with both dvi and anlog cables, also it came with NO dead pixels yipppeee ive played on a few games doom3 mohaa and far cry and ive seen no ghosting, so overall a great buy highly recommended.

LG 1710B or NEC 1760NX... G/f has the NEC and it's nice, plus the specs etc are good. But hearing so many good things about LG and Samsung etc. just makes it even more confusing :(

LG L1720B

I noticed when I went into a PC store to look at the LG L1720B that the power button on the front of the screen is illuminated bright blue. This to me looked like it would put me off when looking at the screen - I wondered whether any of you guys who have the LG could tell me whether this is the case.

Of course not!!! It's just illuminated, it won't distract you from looking at the screen at all!

what features are you looking for?

what about Samsung 172x

The supplier I was originally going to go with has actually come through and sold me a dead pixel free SM 173P. It arrived today. :D

The SM 173P has a blue LED type 'thing' that the LG has and it is not distracting at all. :)

Absolutely not!

Just my two peneth worth.

Bought an LG L1720B replacing my old Mitsubishi 19" CRT.

Overall im happy with it, the colour is fantastic compared to my old CRT, and the monitor itself looks quite pretty :)

I wouldnt recommend it if you play online FPS games as its still a bit dodgy compared to a CRT, but for anything else, great!

Playing some Warcraft3 TFT atm and it looks just so lush and vibrant ;)

Just wanted to thank everyone who contributed to this thread, i've been looking at getting a new TFT to replace my old BenQ 767 and didn't know which to get, but after reading this i decided to order the sammy 172X, shame i couldn't get it through OcUK but they seem to be about as easy to find as rocking horse **** But managed to find them for 305 quid so here's hoping for a dead pixel free one.
