What monitor driver are you using?

If it's just 'plug n play' then I guess the PC might not know whether the device is a TFT or CRT. Try installing a brand & model specific driver - if the manufacturer supplies one that is.

(yes, my iiyama is on DVI and with a iiyama driver)

It's a benq model and I'm using the latest driver from the benq site. Looks like I need a way to explicitly tell windows or the ATI software that "this is a TFT".

I have a sneaking suspicion that it might only be possible on a DVI connection. Has anyone got it working on a VGA TFT? (Disabling scaling for lower resolutions and displaying them with a black border around the excess space, that is)
 
I just bought an LG L1710b for a stunning £270 but I'm having a few problems with it.

First off, the brightness seems to vary quite a lot between the bottom of the screen and the top. Also, the colours don't seem that vibrant and the colourschange significantly when I look at it from above/below the normal angle.

I'm using analogue at the moment but when I upgrade my graphics card (in time for HL2 :) ) I will have DVI. Will this solve my problems, or is it something else completely? Or is this totally normal??
 
well it's very normal to get variations in colour and brightness when looking at the TFT from anything other than perpendicular to the screen.........


there is bound to be some leaking of light around the edges of the screen too. dont worry about that, common on TFT's, unless it's REALLY bad?



just check u are set on 1280 x 1024 resolution and also 60hz as the refresh rate

Well the brightness change from bottom to top is definitely noticable, and at all angles.

The colour change I can definitely live with as I can just tilt it to whatever angle I'm looking at it from but it still doesn't change the washed-out-ness of the colours. Is that something DVI would sort out or is that mainly sharpness-related?
 
does your GFX card have a setting to increase Digital Vibrance (on VGA too) mine does (GeForce card) so i just upped that, made colours more vibrant then

alternatively get Powerstrip, a good prog for changing all your colour settings etc
 
yeah it has it in the NVidia drivers, in the overlay settings, just for desktop, bump up the digital vibrance

i also upped the birghtness to 150% for overlay as videos play brighter then which helped on my TFT
 
Samsung 192N

Hey guys,

Do you have some info on the Samsung 192N? I'm in Greece and I just saw an offer for 350 quid.

Although it does sound tempting (Samsung, TFT, 19', price), I would like to have some more info on the monitor.

The monitor will be primarly for office use and movie viewing (although I'm leaning towards tv-out for movies)

Is there a way to check that the Hyundai Q17 I get has the Samsung 12 response time screen rather the AU Optronics 16 one?

One more thing...Does it come with a wall stand or do I have to buy one? Where can I find it and how easy is it to mount it on the wall? Is the height adjustable once mounted?

AOC 720 WE LOVE U!!!

just thaught id add my 10 cents to this thread.

i have an AOC 720 with inbuilt speakers and ive been using it for over a year now.

i was forced to change for medicle reasons as my 17" CRT was slowly destroying my long range site, it has alass never recovered to perfection (serves me right for using an old CRT for 2 years)

i play battlefield 1942, unreal tournament, unreal, total annihilation, sim city 4, half life, republic. i havent had a single ghost or glitch appear in 18 months... although as stated it does fall down ever so slightly when trying to display a perfect black surface for the surround of DVD`s but unless u got up close and staired you wouldnt see it...

the picture is clear, crisp and stunning.

bought for £270, it still retails for £270 but i do hope these prices fall soon as i believe everyone should have access to these beutiful things...


the only major downfall i have found with owning a TFT is fingerprints gather a lot faster requiring many more wet wipes...

Right was thinking about getting 2 tft to run dual display

now the sammy 172x is out of stock everywhere, so what do people know regarding the 710t looks to be better apart from the styling

or the other option being the q17+ has the beenfit of some usb ports which i need more off tbh


other thing is gfx card only has 1 dvi 1 vga is it going to make that much of a bother

anyone got an pics of their set up with either of those 2 monitors, trying to find pics on the search function is a pain ;] and the manufactuer pics aren't that great or large for that matter

what are peoples opinions on these 2?
 
Just wading into the thread here

I'm thinking of replacing my Hitachi CML174 with a Samsung 172X, if I can find them in stock. Purely for aesthetic reasons..

Can anyone confirm that the ones out now, are the proper 12ms panel, rather than the ones that went out to THG and the like?
 
All the retail ones are 12ms and the review ones were done months before the retail model was ready.

Its a great TFT but is only limited by its base, K used to have stock but not sure if still do and doesnt look like OCuk will be getting anymore best to try shopping price searches mate if your stuck and determind to find it.

The base is pretty much the same as the one on my Hitachi, so that's not an issue.

I don't need a bigger screen, as much as I'd like one, and at £350 its a good buy.

Just need to find stock..

was never "officially" launched over here at all, they thought it was too specialised or something lame. some places inc overclockers imported them due to demand

theya re all the 12ms screens!! dont worry about that at all
 
I'm planning on getting a black shuttle (SB75G2) and was wandering whether you think a Q17+ would go with it (seeing as its silver and that I have never seen one in real life). I am planning on having the shuttle on the desk as well which is why i am asking:D
