Badge Delete / De-Badge

I would do it simply so that nobody knows what engine is under the bonnet. I don't find the badges intrusive, and don't find that they spoil the look. But if I had a 114D, I would rather someone looks at it and thinks "thats smart, I wonder what engine it has..." than "I bet that thing is slow, I guess he couldn't afford a better model".

What are your thoughts on this practice?

I went for this option on the M135I. I done this to avoid unwanted attention. Didn't want people spotting the little M badge and then assuming that I'd be up for a quick head to head.

I also think my car looks better without the various badges.

Makes no difference, you drive a BMW, all will want to race you.

My M3 has no rear badge, not by my choice and I've never bothered to put one on, but everyone tries to race me, even people in vans WTF. But my car is very aggressive looking with serious road presence as kids are always giving thumbs up or shouting nice car, something I expect in the 911 but not in a 3 series on steroids. :D

I'm tempted to do mine as my car has a yellow/black theme to it. Did you paint them on the car?

Yup, black plastidip, 5/6 thin coats to build the layers up.

Then peel round the badges and it all comes away pretty sweet, YouTube has lots of tutorials.

First thing I did on our 330 was to debadge it. I'm guessing it's people assume its just another 320d, which is fine by me.

3 Series on steroids is much more interesting than a 911, to me. I think there are probably less M3's than 911's down here as well. :p

Keep the "Cupra" writing on the back of mine as there is little point removing it. When it has a block diffuser, center exhaust and different alloys it hard to hide it.

Can you order new cars without model/engine badges? I just assumed that all de-badged cars had been de-badged by an owner at some point.

I dunno, sub 6s 0-60 with an (artificially limited) top speed of 155mph would not be described as 'far from quick' by the majority of people. Obviously a real top end hot hatch like an A45/M135i/RS3 etc would leave it trailing but I doubt many 'Barrys' are going to be packing one of them and the supermini type of competition we are likely talking about here (Fiesta ST, Clio 197/200 and the like) may struggle gaining enough height to do the ****ing unless it is on favourable roads where agility is more important (the type of roads where 'racing' is totally unacceptable in the first place).

I think you missed the CDI part ;)

Up here M3's are everywhere, 911's however are a rare sight. Don't get me wrong the 911 gets a lot more attention as it's a very rare car because of colour and massive rear wing. :D

Just the M3 gets it's fair share too.

But hey neither of them compared to what the Mustang got, women would literally throw their underwear at it. ;)

When I purchased my 123d from a dealer it had M badges on the back and sides, they were requested to be removed.

Having seen a few nice clean looking rear ends I'm removing the 123d, it's not a quick car so doesn't bother me. Just looks nicer

I will wear my TDI badge on the back of my A7 with pride, there's not many cars on the road that will massacre a 5.3 to 60 and if they do well it congrats you just beat a diesel :o

Was the M badge on the back under the engine designation? Because I really don't think the pensioner I saw driving that new 3 GT would have badged it up himself.

On the opposite side, so left side for the M badge and right side for the 123d.

It had M badges on the wings, apparently all factory fitted.

Because it's not an M car and it ruins the minimal look.
