So will the Bahrain race be cancelled again this year or will it go ahead?

Damon Hill has called for a rethink

Bernie has no doubts

The race is due to be held on the 22 April so time is running out, a decision needs to be made whether its going ahead or not.
I have a feeling it will be called off at the last minute.

F1 Racing did a poll on this a couple of months back. The results from fans were about 85% saying 'No, it shouldn't go ahead". Unfortunately though they didn't allow enough detail as to why you felt that, so they have assumed 85% of their readers all voted that way due to political unrest.

I certainly didn't. I voted no because the track is dire and the country couldn't have less of an interest in F1 if they tried.

But I think the excuses being thrown around are pathetic and weak. Its all about saving face in terms of whatever is going on in the news.

Have just been listening to this on the radio. The general consensus I picked up was that it will be going ahead at the moment.

its alright for the high level team members but the mechanics staying in ****py hotels that have to make there own way to and from the track...

can see a few getting lynched tbh

how come the word that rhymes with trap is being censored?

Because the forum considers it a swear?

But it wont be any different to Brazil, and we go there every year without question.

Bernie won't pull the plug because it'll cost him money if he's the one to call it off and as long as Bernie says it's going ahead the teams have to act like they're happy to go because they're bound by the Concorde agreement.

It'll go down to the wire before the Bahrainis are put under enough pressure behind the scenes that they have to cancel it.

Last year they still paid the fee so he wasn't out of pocket.

If the organisers cancel (as happened last year) they pay, if Bernie cancels they don't. Hence Bernie will publicly insist that the race is going ahead until the organiser is forced to accept that it isn't.

This.

Bernie knows he's shooting himself in the foot otherwise.

Labour MP Richard Burden says Bahrain GP should not go ahead
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/98629

Since February last year, 45 people have died on Bahrain's streets. The latest victim was killed by live ammunition only last week. Hundreds of protesters gathered at the cemetery near his home outside the capital, Manama. Reports say riot police fired tear gas and stun grenades into the crowds, setting off running street clashes.

Expect there will be lots more people calling for it to be cancelled.

I think it shouldn't go ahead purely cause it's a yawnfest.

If they decide not to go because of security concerns then China has to go as well otherwise it's not a very consistent stance to take.

lol, I like that reasoning  - you are right though, it certainly is one of the more boring tracks.

China can go too, for exactly the same reasons.

They won't go though while they are giving Bernie lots of cash.

No and they should never return. There should also be some very serious questions asked to Ecclestone about his practices of selecting GP locations.

If they're playing the human rights card, then yes I agree. However at present there are several groups threatening to disrupt the circuit, the race and staff of the teams. That's a safety issue not a human rights one.

Those overalls couldn't be more inaccurate if they tried lol.

/missing the point in a serious situation since April 2012
