Bahrain GP 2012 - Will it go ahead?

Drop it, replace it with a European track where people are actually interested in F1, pretend you did it because you care about human rights, job done.

I think it should be cancelled again.

For one, Bahrain is boring and doesn't attract enough of a local audience. Secondly there are circuits, especially some of the dropped European ones which could pull in a massive local crowd and be far more entertaining.

On the more political side of things, I think given the events in the country, I think the government will do everything they can possibly do to put on the race, in an attempt to send out the message that things are 'normal' in the country.

I don't doubt that the government will do everything to protect the F1 teams, but it's creating a silly bubble that doesn't reflect what's really happening in the country, they aren't fooling anyone though. But further to that, if protestors really try and make a stand at the race, how far will the government go to stop them? If somebody gets hurt or worse killed then that's the worst thing F1 could possibly be associated with.

I think it probably will be called off, but knowing Bernie he's going to let it stew until the last minute so it builds up more headlines involving F1.

It shouldn't be postponed, it should be scrapped.

What's next? F1 Zimbabwe, with Mugabe presenting the trophies?

The Guardian report is a but out of date now.

Today's BBC headline is that Ecclestone has consulted the teams and they say that they aren't worried.

If you read the actual FOTA statement though it's quite clear that they've refrained from making a judgement and said its up to the FIA to make a decision, as they should be really.

Should be called off & never re-added to be honest.

Yep. But because the circuit is rubbish and the country has no interest in F1. Nothing to do with the namby pamby "looking good in the media" false concerns about any human rights garbage everyone is spewing.

Surely they could have had a circuit on standby to even run behind closed doors in the event this was canceled. Somewhere in Europe, even if it meant they used the same venue in a year twice.

Think for a second about just how much money, how many people and all the logistics and planning that go into staging a race and you will realise that could just never work.

Ticket sales are a major source of funding for race promoters. Running a race with no spectators or sponsors would be financially impossible unless the the track was owned by F1 itself (like Paul Ricard, which was rumoured to host a 'closed doors' race some years back as part of some Teams vs. FIA 'toys-out-of-pram' shenanigans).

I really can't see it happening now to be honest. It feels like we are getting the same build up of news as we did last year before it was cancelled. Although clearly this year it is much closer to the race.
