Bahrain Grand Prix 2010, Sakhir - Race 1/19

In light of the ferrari's swapping engines before the race as a precautionary measure, but being able to use these engines again in future practice sessions, I've just a quick query - can a team use one blend of fuel and lubricants in qualifying trim for peak power, and another in race trim for efficiency/reliabilty?

^ ahh 8 - 7 , for some reason i had it in my mind it was 11 engines for the season .. meh ..lol

Pretty sure that would be illegal due to 'Parc Ferme' rules. Cars cannot be worked on unless there is an issue. All work must be carried out under the eye of a scrutineer.

Fuel may be added to the cars, tyres changed and brakes bled. Minor front wing adjustments are also allowed, but little else. These controls mean that teams cannot make significant alterations to the set-up of a car between qualifying and the race.

"Abnormal parameters"... hmmm ;)

I don't think the front wing can be changed, the cars are allowed to have a system for the driver to alter the wing at any time but I don't believe they're allowed to fiddle with the settings. Plus the top ten aren't even allowed new tyres.

All very silly if you ask me.

yes you can put more front wing angle on. but its only a few degrees.

From what I inferred from the commentary during Q3, the rule seems to be:

If you attempt a qualifying lap during Q3, you then have to use those tyres at the start... alternatively you can sacrifice the session, not take a car round the track and get to choose starting tyres.

At least, that's how I interpreted what was said by Brundle & Loquacious Legard; in other words: if you commit to a Q3 qualifying lap, then you commit to tyres. But you don't have to.

The aerodynamic set up of the front wing may be adjusted using the existing parts. No parts may be added, removed or replaced.

I'm guessing the changing of tyres relates to the cars outside of the top ten only.

The only info i could find on it was http://www.formula1.com/inside_f1/rules_and_regulations/sporting_regulations/8685/fia.html

They appear to be last years rules but not sure much has changed for this year in terms of what you can & cannot do with the excepion of tyres for the top 10 & KERS related stuff

Wonder what would happen if everyone didn't do a run then. What order would they use?
I think at the very least you would do a run on the hard option which would give you a chance at a good slot.

if everyone did that you jump out at the last second set a nice slow lap to not waste the tyres, get pole and keep your tires :)

Everyone would just sit in their garage waiting to see who would jump. Then once one cars goes, all the others would fly out.
Would be good fun though :)

you would have to time it down to the last second like when alonso screwed hamilton a few years ago, it was the perfect move.

edit* still get tingles when the music starts :p
