Bahrain Grand Prix 2010, Sakhir - Race 1/19

I think if the redbull is ok on tires the top 3 will be

1.Vettel
2.Alonso
3.Massa

If Vettel has to make an extra stop and/or loses pace due to killed tires it will go

1.Alonso
2.Massa
3.Hamilton

or

1.Alonso
2.Massa
3.Vettel

Depending on how bad it is

Aye, and he's the only one of the top ten not on softs, so expect him to pick up places if he doesn't bin it (or get binned by someone else, knowing Sutil's luck).

The Ferrari's are ahead of him so he'll have to be really unlucky to be knocked out by one of them. :D

I must say I've not looked forward to the start of the first race in years, Possibly decades.
4 World Champions in the top ten, No fuel stops & Superb no advert coverage.
At least now i don't begrudge paying my license fee.

well the ones on softs will pit within about 10 laps I reckon.

I think Vettel may screw his tyres, I think Massa will be very smooth, not sure how Fred, Hammi and Schumi will do.
Oh yes Rosberg and Button should be smooth.
We may see a fair bit of overtaking after about one third distance, possibly due to better traction out of slow corners.

Of course the fastest cars will be driving at Lotus or Virgin qualifying speeds so quite a lot slower and totally different handling.

edit: oh yes and the ride height will be a lot lower

I'm going for

Massa
Alonso
Vettel

mostly because of the red bull tyre wear issue, which may turn out to not be there.

Yup, this is my prediction too. I think Massa will do well enough to keep Alonso behind him, and I can't see Vettel maintaining his first place throughout the whole race as the Ferraris have the pace to match him early on.

You really think Massa is good enough to stay ahead of Alonso? My prediction is (barring extraordinary events), Alonso will overtake Massa during the pitstops.

Massa is very fast and possible the fastest qualifier. Alonso might have a tenth on him during the race but we will have to wait and see how the drivers deal with the new rules. Alonso should have the advantage off the line as he will be on the racing line. Pitstops will be different this year as the cars that are going in first will probably have the advantage.

Off the line i am looking forward to the good old 'Schumacher Cut Across' again :D.

Oh and to Sunama, i cant actually believe you mentioned Mansell in the same breath as Senna when it comes to 'driving eyeballs out'. Granted Mansell was a good racer, but Schumacher and Senna are/were in a different league when it came to producing seat-of-your-pants moments of driving skill.

We shall have to agree to disagree.

MS competed in so many GPs and was consistently fast, but I don't remember him taking undue risks in the same way that Mansell, Senna or Hamilton take/took.

I would say that MS is somewhere between Senna (eyeballs out, risk taking) and Prost (very calculated, careful, happy to get 16 2nd place finishes rather than 9 wins and 7 DNFs).

In terms of putting together huge points totals, Prost and MS are the top 2 F1 drivers.

Predictions? well mine is:

Alonso
Vettel
Hamilton

Massa will have a pit stop issue knowing his luck :D

Vettel
Massa
Webber

Not sure why people are pitching Alonso higher than Massa. Massa is a truly superb driver - 2nd in 2008 and in 2009 had a bad car and of course the accident. This year will be different.

I heard last year that the Renault engine is one of the most fuel economic. And that Ferrari's is one of the worst.

I think this variable is being forgotten quite a bit. Don't think the BBC mentioned it once during their coverage

Should be interesting watching the difference between the RBR and Ferrari with full tanks.

My prediction:

Alonso
Massa
Hamilton

Additional prediction:

Schumi will be dreadful at the start and lose lots of places.

Button
Hamilton
Chandhok

That would be some sort of crazy dream come true :D :)

Just for fun, my prediction:

Massa
Hamilton
Rosberg

I also think Kobayashi will move up a fair bit from his grid slot

Sutil is on the hard tyre; which is better suited to a long stint at a decent average pace, compared to the softs the others have which will have a quick few laps but then drop off the pace rapidly as they degrade.

Vettel
Massa
Webber

Because Alonso was the guy who beat MS to the title in 2005.
Then repeated this in 2006.
In 2007, he moved to McLaren and came up against one of the fastest, if not the fastest driver in F1 (Hamilton). They tied on points.
In 2008 and 2009, he comprehensively demolished his team-mates.

In fact, when was the last time Alonso, over the course of the season, got outscored by his team-mate?

Regarding Sutil, what does it mean that he is running different tyres to the rest?

His tyres will last much longer in the first part of the race, so he will either:

a) Have an opportunity to overtake cars in front who are struggling on worn super-soft tyres (especially those who are forcing themselves onto a one-stop strategy).

b) Pass the guys in front who will pit early, and hopefully build up a nice lead before his own pitstop.

Also he will use the super-soft tyres when he has a lower amount of fuel than everyone else, so in theory will get the least wear (and therefore best usage?) out of the tyres... on the flipside, he could get a weaker launch off the start line, so could lose places to people behind him who chose the super-soft tyre (though I doubt anyone will be).

I think that covers it :D
