Bahrain Grand Prix 2014, Sakhir - Race 3/19

He ignored red flags and hit a marshal. Nearly killing him and leaving him with a broken back. WSR banned him for 4 races, while the Prince of Monaco banned him from racing in the principality for life.

However, Venezuelan government officials then stepped in, and convinced the Prince to drop the ban and instead issue a massive, yet undisclosed fine which was swiftly payed by the Venezuelan government using public money.

Public money was buying him out of a well deserved ban well before it was buying him undeserved seats in F1.

Just finished watching the race and I don't know how anyone can say this is boring now. Awesome racing throughout the whole race with the two front runners and then the rest of the field. Every lap seemed to bring a new order of names, and seeing FI and Williams so high up, brilliant.

Cherry on top? Slick Ric outclassing his team mate.

I can see why most of you rate Sky over Beeb. I'm actually enjoying the technical side and commentary compared to BBC. Overall I liked the Night time racing in Bahrain and the race today - plenty of action everywhere.

Only let down was the Race Director's obsession with the Redbulls and not allowing us to watch the final laps of the race from Niko and Lewis's view.

Oh and I hope they sort out who conduct the Podium Interviews, although having Clarkson for Silverstone would be fun. :D

loldonado should start at the back of the grid for the next race and then have a 30 second penalty stop and go penalty. The guy is a nut job!

And it seems on the ban theres an argument on
A) were yellow flags being shown, Maldonado and the driver behind him, say there were no yellows.
B)
Further to a prior report published on Autosport-Atlas, we wish to clarify that RDD driver Pastor Maldonado was not banned for life from competing in Monaco.

Maldonado was penalised by the World Series by Renault race stewards and will serve a ban of nine races in total, including tomorrow's race at Monaco. No further action was taken against him.

Autosport-Atlas apologises for the error.

Driver of the day, Button for the smooth and calm way in which he parked the car in the garage.

Cracked me up ;)

Great race, really great race. If Webber had been a remotely competent driver and actually had fights like that with Vettel regularly then the last several years wouldn't have been bad. But there were so many battles throughout the race, lots of overtaking.

Cornering, I forget the train race Hulkenberg ran last year(the main one that is, there were several) he outpowered people down the straights and no one could afford to go deep in corners due to tire life. if anyone locked up last year they'd be in the pits within 5 laps because they were 2 seconds down a lap. This year they lock up all over the place, dive up the inside, go around the outside.

Hugely impressive race in terms of excitement. Was thinking at the end that effectively safety car ruined Hamilton's race which is a shame. Even though I rate him above Nico, I think this is one of the tracks Nico may be better at(all drivers have 1-2 races where they are just above their normal level at because it just suits them) and with the tire advantage I thought there was pretty much no chance. Thought effectively if he wins this it will be epic, and it was an epic fight. I don't know if Nico's tires went off a bit or after 6-7 laps of fighting they decided to call it a 1-2 as is. They certainly had a proper fight for most of the race though.

Merc is epically, ridiculously fast when they can just go balls out. That is the thing though, two drivers pushing each other, if they settled on a 1-2 they'd have finished 5 seconds ahead of Perez, but because they were fighting for first they went flat out, awesome it was too.

Great for Perez also, great drive, some great overtaking and great for Force India, fantastic to see them doing well. Little disappointed with Williams, rather like Merc of the past 4 years, fast... but useless. Woeful tire deg issues, pitting on lap 10 for Bottas vs lap 21 or so for Hamilton on the same tire, extra pitstops. Pace but fundamental problems with the car that I think will prevent it's race pace being great.... yet.

That is quite disgusting, the guy is like a parasite.

Race today was epic, i really enjoyed the racing at the front with Lewis and Rosberg. This is why Vettel's years were so boring because his team mate sucked and couldn't challenge him at the front and it would just be Vettel cruising along with no competition.

At least now the drivers seem to be fairly even who have the fastest package and the midfield battles are quite nice to watch as well.

Who ever said Clarkson for the podium interview at Silverstone is a genius lol.
Thought Brian Johnson did a good job on the interviews was short and sweet today.

Ferrari are a joke, i think Stefano might be out of a job next season. It's been 6 years since they had a race winning car now. They have 2 of the best drivers on the grid this season and still cant put out a half decent car for them to challenge for race wins.

I think they pointed out guys pumping fists over the line even coming 5th and 9th, and just the commentary team is beaming smiles, Lauda being hilarious but smiling. It was a fun race, but everyone involved had fun(well most) and guys just fighting in 9th were having actual fun on track racing. When the drivers are having fun, spectators will, simple as that. Lots of drivers last year said, tire saving, fuel saving, cruising, Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel I think at points said it was pretty boring.

**** the noise, it's the racing that matters and that was a great great race which seemingly those racing were enjoying.

Also Gutierez's reaction to the flip, which btw looked AWESOME from the onboard camera, was the most out of place understated reaction ever.

Car flips over, smashes, destroys itself and he says in such a calm, quite voice "what was that", cracked me up.

Awesome race, seeing the mercs flat out racing each other has gotta be one of my favourite races in a long time ! Force india looking good too, and how happy was perez haha , not a fan of him but made me think 'maybe he is a good guy'.

Bring on China!

Really happy to see FI actually go for a full speed race and more pitstops, gets boring watching them always take the slow strategy, yes it works out but you always wonder if they just put the foot down and did the extra stop where would they be. I think they look like the second strongest Mercedes car and would they have done better with fast pace + 1 pitstop in the past two races?

F1 would be a much better place without Maldonado. He's a liability, and purposely driving into people (Monaco and Spa) spring to mind, in these cars, should be awarded a lifetime ban from the Sport imo. It's absolutely farcical that he is still in the scene.

Saying I can't stand the guy would be the understatement of the century but don't want to get banned on here! :)

The only small comfort is the hilarious karma that has seen him leave Williams and buy his way into cash-strapped Lotus only for their fortunes to be totally reversed.
