No-one is surprised.

I'm surprised. They peaked at 5th in 2018, and have seemed increasingly dire these past three seasons. The decision making (or finances) that led to hooking with the Mazepins also didn't point to a team on the rise, and I figured two rookies would hamper their chances at development. I expected them to be backmarkers again not fighting for the midfield.

Have to say, with all three Ferrari engined teams looks strong, it does look like Ferrari may have a decent motor for the coming years.

Edit Interesting, the winner of the F3 sprint race has been penalised for track limits and demoted, with the amount we've seen them running over in practice/testing so far I wonder whether that will come into play today/tomorrow.

Poor George, you can see he’s devastated.

Up against the best of the best, couldn't match his pace all session, and fluffed his final run. That's gotta hurt. I still think we'll see a lot more from him this season, but he's in for the fight of his life. Being beaten by Hamilton is one thing, getting trounced is another.

Yeah it's going to mix up more I feel, I expected Verstappen to be on pole by a second, he will probably win the race, but you never know.

Red Bull's advantage looked biggest on short runs with the softs. I expect Ferrari to be stronger in race than quali.

Wow f2 now completely forgot.

Thanks for the reminder! I was so busy putting dinner in the oven I totally forgot.

They were talking up their PU in the off season which I don't think many people took serious.
Mercedes drivability woes are probably the main cause of their lack of pace rather than the PU being predominantly to blame, the package as a whole just isn't working right now.

You're right about that being their main problem, but the weakness of the Merc customer teams doesn't suggest they have the best PU any more.

Mad F2 race coming to a close now. Two cars released without wheels attached (one blocking pitlane), Vips having over a 4 second lead, only to suffer the mare of all pitstops but made it back up to third, Iwasa coming from last to lead now with fresher tyres and in P7, and now the restart with 2 laps to go!

It was chaos. They need to look at how pit stops are regulated. That was very dangerous, and it wasn't even the only time we saw a car move with the gun attached.
