Balding / shaving head

I'm 46 and my hair is apparently ( I can't see the top of my head) fading away.

I have simply told the other half to tell me when it looks daft, at which point it will all come off.
Do it anyway, hair is for girls.

I started receding a couple of years ago, so just shaved the lot off, bic style! Always had terrible hair anyway, and I look loads better now than I ever did so it's a blessing in disguise really!

Recently, my other brother has started to get a receding hairline. I was round his house the other day, and after me taking the mick, he said "I have to do something about this". He then shaved his head, first with clippers, then with a razor, and it looked great. He says he will do this until they find a cure for baldness, or for the rest of his life. I too plan on shaving my head if I start balding, which may well happen as it happened to my brother obviously. I sometimes do it anyway, so it's no big deal to me, and the ladies seem to really like it :p

Anyway, what do you guys think about balding? Does it worry you at all, or would you just go down the route of shaving your head? or perhaps, the dreaded comb over!

It worried me at first when I realised my hair was getting thin on top, although its not at the stage where something needs to be done as it isnt too bad yet.
Doesnt bother me now though, as it can look great shaved off and as you say some ladies love bald guys and its macho too :D
Comb overs are bad.

I cant believe how much it bothers Bruce Willis.
Baldness suits him yet he spent loads of money trying to avoid it and apparently he'll kill anyone who mentions his lack of hair :D

hmm must admit I've been tempted to shave my head again (well number one) but didnt mostly as the last time I did it (when I had tons of hair) it looked odd and I was told I "looked like a mental patient".

I did however get plenty of space as the bar but I've never thought a guy with glasses suited short hair or "almost to the wood". I could always get contacts I guess :p

oddly when my dad had his heart transplant his hair started growing back in as a side effect from the various pills he was taking, they were never sure if it was new hair or just his existing hair thickening but you can actually see a difference in pictures now, although he still shaves it to a number 2 :p

Taking the birth control pill will stop you going bald but you will also grow breasts and your nuggets will shrink. :p

For the last few years I was like a bear, always shaving (with a razor) my head in the summer, and grow it back in the winter. I loved it

Then I got married and the wife "demanded" I grew my hair back....

Not a happy boy now....

Okay, I cant take this any longer. :D
I have to speak out.

I totally disagree with this. Obviously there is a small minority of women who actually prefer the "bald" look, but I feel that the vast majority would choose a man with a full head of hair over the bald man. I had this convo with my sister. She said she found the bald look quite sexy. After 30 mins I made her admit that she prefers the man with a full head of hair over the bald man.

However, I dont want to debate this as the argument would be too long for me to put together here. This is my opinion and I will stick to it, so please dont flame me for it.

The way I see it is if you are male and have nice hair then for sure you will miss your full head of hair. If however, you have bad hair and have no idea how to style it, then shaving it all off wont really make any difference - to you or the wife. Also I find that lean afro/carribean men tend to look better all shaved than with hair. All other races though look better with hair (if the hair is in good condition and well styled). In all cases though, to have a good shaved look, you need to have a good shaped skull and be lean, otherwise you will look fat and bald.

I think women accept baldness. Thats different to actually preferring it.

Couldn't give a flying ******* rat's ******* arse about going bald. :)

It's normal, natural, and looks better than having a big mop of hair anyway ;)

She got bored of the argument :D

I introduce to the people of the Jury, exhibits A, B and C:

A - Billy Zane is bald and he's got Kelly Brook one of the finest ladies on earth.
B - Patrick Stewart is an old man yet goes out with women my age - back of the net.
C - Vin Deisel is very popular with the ladies and looked stupid with hair.

I agree the right shape of face and head is cruicial - too thin and you look like a mental patient, too fat and its not great either.

All women are different though, I know its no ticket to success with the ladies.

I have NEVER met a woman who could care less if a man was bald or not.

Looking like a mental patient has nothing to do with hair, you will look like a mental patient if you are a frootloop. Same goes for fat baldies, if you're fat then you're fat, plain as and those factors will have more bearing on the way you look than your baldy yud.

I lost my hair around Christmas time due to chemotherapy, it really bothered me because I lost all my hair including eyebrows, eyelashes, stubble and all body hair.. a v.extreme Picard look and I looked slightly androgynous

The treatment ended in February and I'm back up to speed on the hair thing now, and you'd be amazed how many women have said it looks much, much better now being a number three length all over than it did before I lost it all (was near shoulder-length originally).

When it started to grow back, it looked totally fine at a number one length and I know when I start to go bald I will whip it back down to that length.

Yup, some people have a decent-shaped head for short/bald hair and some just don't.. it's a fact of life. If you have the right overall build/persona it can greatly improve your appearance but if not it can go the other way and you look a foo'.

when I get it a number one it sticks up on end and makes me look like a hedgehog, any suggestions? take it to a number 3 instead or something? :(

Ah but is it the bold look that attracted the ladies or could it be a combination of fame and fortune?

Been losing my hair up top for about 5 years now :( (I'm 23 in November) and it actually looks much better when short. So recently I bought some clippers for £20 and keep it short which is good in this weather. I use a 3 or 4 at the moment but it'll probably be a 2 soon.

Sometimes I do hate the fact I'm losing my hair but sometimes I just don't care.
