Just ordered it for £12 it includes BG1+expansion BG2+expansion. Never played them before i hear they good. But there getting on now so will they work on vista. Also i heard there brilliant but why are they?

They're just bloody good games to play. Enveloping storylines, deep and evolving quest lines, tons and tons of stuff to do, highly configurable characters, exciting game play, decent graphics (certainly for the time), and one of the best RPG expansions ever made (Baal's Throne). What more could you want?

Questions:

1.Is it easy to understand, if i played other rpgs this one wont confuse me.

2.How easy it to look after so many ppl, as i understand it you have like 4-6 in your party?

3. How long is the games, is it bigger than most rpgs?

4. will it run on vista?

For BG1 I would recommend that you also use the mod BG1TUTU. This allows BG1 (+exp) to run in the enhanced BG2 engine so you get higher resolution graphics etc. This is much better than the clunky BG1 engine with a max res of 640x480. This is a very stable mod now and there is a "Easytutu" option for people who might be apprehensive about modding.

1. Not sure what you mean but, the storyline is easy to understand, the UI is easy to understand. There's a big manual that explains all the spells etc.

2. Easy - you can pause the game and give orders to your party (e.g. go here, attack this mob etc). Make sure you enable auto-pause on enemy sighted if it's not enabled by default.

3. You can go through the main storyline fairly quickly IIRC, but alternatively you can explore a bit, do side-quests which takes a bit longer, but you'll have better gear for the final bosses.

4. Dunno - what did it say on the website where you bought it from?

One thing you might want to look out for is a mod that increases the resolution of BG1. It was pretty low (640x480) back in the day, BG2 is much better at 800x600).

1. Easy- uses old D&D, so if you can do KotOR/NWN it's similar. Some differences such as as armour class improves, it lowers (i.e. AC of -6 is v. good). Just get a FAQ from the web that has no spoilers.

2. Very easy- you can assign 'scripts' to your characters that defines how they behave when you're not controlling them, and you can pause in between giving orders if you choose.

3. Don't know- quite big.....

4. Again don't know.

The games are very good because of the characters and story. I'd say it's deffo worth avoiding spoilers and certainly don't bother using walkthroughs (on your first go). Different classes get different conversations/quests, and different party members interact differently, there are a lot of replay options.

Some advice though- before playing Baldurs Gate 1, install both BG1 and BG2, then install BG Tutu. It uses the better GFX of BG2 for BG1, plus some other good stuff like better resolutions supported.

Talking of resolutions, you may also want to try theBiggs Widescreen Mod, for all(?) Infinity Engine games- gives you any resolution you like (widescreen, or 4:3 etc). Find that here.

Don't let the GFX put you off- they can get quite good when you get sucked in, and if you are a wizard you get some lovely spell effects.

Enjoy.

1. It's fairly easy to get into yes.

2. Easy to do, use auto-pause on combat as above.

3. It's absolutely massive.

4. Dunno.

1. Its not too difficult. Some experience with the D&D rules would help but not essential.

2. You can pause the game during combat with the space bar if memory serves. You can then issue orders to your party while paused making it much easier.

3. I can't imagine it will last you as long as a lot of the sandbox RPG's like Morrowind but there's a lot of game time there to be getting on with. If you do get on with it you must play Planescape: Torment next. The Icewind Dale games are also good although more combat orientated.

So for my first character what would be best, im more into being an excellent sword fighter, so im probably better off with something like that. And is there a charcter i can have who would put buffs and other type spells to make me stronger.

Well ive got the following games coming:
Baldurs Gate Compilation- £11.92
Fallout Collection- £7.99
Icewind Dale Compilation - £7.91

So plenty of gaming:)

Another game thats been missed in this thread is Planscape Torment, and absolutly fantastic game, with a great, but different storyline.

Can you cancel the order? If so you can pick up the 'Forgotten Realms - Deluxe edition'.
Its got NWN + both expantions
Baldurs gate + expantion
Baldurs gate 2 + expantion
Icewind dale + expantion
Icewind dale 2.

I got it for £15 - You cant get better than this.

Ive found a copy of System Shock 2 how about that aswell?

On a bit of a roll this morning, aren't you :)

Cool thing about BG2 was multiclassing. You could, for example, play a fighter to level 7, and then switch to mage, which put you back at level 1. Once you'd gotten to level 8 in mage though, your fighter abilities switch back on and you can use bloody great swords while casting magic and get the benefit of all the other abilities you'd gained through 7 levels of fighter.

This is one of the reasons I've played that game through so many times - trying out different combos of classes, and playing it through with different companions (there are more in the game than you can have in your party, each with a different little storyline / quests to go with them).

To be pedantic that was dual-classing wasn't it? And only available to Humans. Non-Human races could multi-class, where you were say a level 3 Fighter/Rogue and as you gained XP you advanced in both classes. With dual-classing you only advanced in one class but had the abilities of the old one (once you got past that level).

Man I want to play this game again now :)

Ive also just ordered another game
NW2 Expansion pack

I never managed to finish NW2 i got to Act 3 and had to fight this bloke in the arena and i could never beat him. Out of interest how far into the game was i?
