now this is getting silly.... i really dont understand this what so ever, ive got standard/value crucial ram running thats 5-6years old, however ive had to replace EVERY ballistix chip ive brought (or receved as a replacement), within a year of getting them and im really starting to get fed up......

First system,
A64 3200
Asus A8V deluxe(VIA)

2x 512mb A and B (DS)
B dies 3 months later, and gets replaced by C (DS)
A and C work along side each other for 9 months without issue.

Upgrade to A64 4400, A8N Premium (3 months ago)
A and C work for 1 month in this system before
A Dies, and is replaced by D (single sided), C doesnt work with D, so C is replaced by E (so they both single sided)
C and E work for 2 months, and now they have BOTH failed?!?!?!

What the hell is going on here? thank god Crucials RMA service is the best ive EVER had to use, but im using it WAY too often

Last time i had 3 crucial sticks die on me PC3200, that was ages ago when i was using thunderbirds and the abit KG7 board...they died under strange reasons...the last one without even been overclocked...they RMAD the sticks and told me that would have been the last time they do so...i never bought crucial again...

Check if your board is short circiuiting anywhere with the case...of if you have dropped anything on the board...dunno a screw or whatever...yes i have seen this in the past while building mates pcs...

You changed boards and cpus...so this kinda proves it should be the ram.

Are your power rails all fine?Check with a multimeter too.
if i was honest.... the problems started when my 460watt Enermax decided it couldnt power this rig anymore... And the ram was dead when i fitted my 620watt Enermax.

hmhmh could be a power prob...cos one of my sticks died due to dodgy PSU mate.when i bought ages ago my enermax everything stopped...

BTW how youve been man....been away for months...national service you see...you may remember me
i think the psu took the ram out with it.... but its funny how it only killed one?

i not sure i remember ya? lol

I have been through 4 sets of Ballistix Pc4000 so i know your frustrations all too well. First 2 sets were the 2.5,4,4,8 stuff, then i got sent a pair of single sided 3,4,4,8 sticks, then after that they sent me a single 1gb stick and told me that i could have a 30% discount if i wanted to buy another lol. The guy i spoke to on the phone was actually very cool, and he let me know in a roundabout way that they have serious problems with Ballistix returns, which apparently is pcb related and not a problem with the IC's.

All of the sets worked fine for a few months then i'd suddenly start getting crashes left right and center. Fingers crossed this 1gb stick is ok atm, but i wont hold my breath, i just wish Intel had decent chips atm so i could just hurry up and move to DDR2 already, i really dont see the point in buying more DDR now.
aye, i cant beleive the fail rate. These 2 chips have NEVER run at there rated speed 2-2-2-8 200mhz the max they can do is 2.5-3-3-8 200mhz, but i needed my pc so just kept quiet. i might email them today, and tell them 1 has totaly failed, while the other one cant even run at rated speed (again!!!)

might ask if i can RMA the 2x512mb and get 2x1gig back

i brought some PC4000 crucial, 2gig of it...

the 2nd chip has died within a month... So it looks like my Asus A8N-SLI premium is burning up anything i put in the second slot.....

Who do i turn to now? What do i say to crucial? What do i say to Asus? Or do i go to where i brought it from?

this means more time without my system

just send them back to crucial - they never complain if the memory is faulty. I found that my memory was stable at 250mhz in slots a1 b1 but in slots a2 b2 i can get 270mhz so i suggest try the other two slots.
ive sent back like 5 chips in the last year, sooner or later they will blacklist me.

ive got no idea what is going on

1: PC 4000, 1024mb double sided, fails at 680.6mb
2: PC 4000, 1024mb double sided, fails at 1018mb
A: PC 3200, 512mb single sided, fails at 293.5mb
B: PC3200, 512mb single sided, passes SO far..... but has a lot of POST problems (1 in 3 posts need CMOS reset)

Vibein, what was the batch codes's? like the CL1115 codes on mine?

aparently its the 5 batch/fab thats rubbish

Was any of your dead Ballistix being actively cooled?

yes and no... i do have a fan blowing in that direction, and have so ever since getting the two 1gig chips... didnt help.

the 512mb chips run uncooled for a while, and was hotter than my cpu at points. could really do with some propper heatsinks on these things

I phoned em an hour and go and they were fine, dropping them off tomorrow and they'll ship replacements for friday.

Very pleasant to deal with.

I think I'm still covered under my statutory rights or something anyway. Maybe! But I didn't mention it wasn't me that bought them.

Still thinking about buying 2GB of Mushkin PC4000 Redline, since I can get it at US prices though... :)
crucial customer services are 2nd to none, they are great.... its just unlucky this is the 5th time this ive had to deal with them..... :(

yes... crucial recommended that if i was using them over 2.7volts that id have to active cool them...

my 2gig of ram was actively cooled every day it was in, it still died after 1.5months of useage

Gibbo i was wondering if you could help me, i sent my RAm curical ram back over 4 weeks ago, i got an emial saying i would have them back 7-10 days and its over a moth now, i got a emial from your tech support after complaining, and they said it will be put on there top pirorty, yet still 10 days after and constant messages i have yet to get a reply from them...

Kamz
while i feel for your problems, please dont get this thread locked....because asking questions like that will cause a lockin.

sent mine back this thursday, they tested them on friday, and found one to be faulty and one not to be faulty..... replacements came on saturday

hellofa fast turn around :D

2.65volt im using with these new ones, since they are underclocked. Still VERY hot to touch, Got active cooling on them though.

Im thinking of either modding a duct to them, or adding some big heatsinks too them since i wont be using any more slots i have the space around them...

Mmmm, I read this post (I'll be alright, just a few unlucky users) before I ordered my 2 x 1Gb sticks on Friday. They arrived Monday morning and I installed them. Worked fine for 8 hours on Monday always at 2.7v and upto 236MHz but nevr near or over the rated 250MHz.

Now, they have 120,000+ errors in Memtest before the test locks the PC up.
The PC is totally unstable at any speed now with this new memory fitted.

A call to Crucial is in order first thing in the morning I think.

Thing is, they will most likely send me 2 of the same type of memory ! That had better not fail too !
was that cooled at all?

Got up this morning to find my Ballistix have died again  only got them back from crucial on 24th November. Time to find some reliable memory to fit to my system. Any suggestions?
at 2.8volts they need active cooling, because they get way too hot.....:(

Aus-bound said:
They have, i have a coolermaster stacker with the crossflow fan blowing straight across them. :(
well thats rubbish then, wouldnt expect them to die with that sort of cooling

crucial really need to sort something out
