Balls... Didn't read the Minimum Spec for BF3

I'm sure using command prompt to disable/enable WGA and "legally" downloading Windows 7 are walking very close to the line of legality

It's 100% legal ive seen it documented on the microsoft websites, it's how i was made aware of it a few years ago.

You're not disabling it, you're just adding extra time. You can only do it 3 times.

EDIT

Microsoft provides a way to reset the grace period up to three times using rearm functionality available through the slmgr.vbs command-line interface. This effectively extends the grace period of these products to 120 days. For details see Slmgr.vbs Options in the Volume Activation Technical Reference Guide.

That's from Microsoft Technet.

people still using xP? lmao

because windows 7 is the OS of today not of 10 years ago - times have moved on and people being dumhat elitist by sticking to XP is just sad more than anything and if you dont have a pc thats capable of win 7 then you might as well not bother with anything pc related at all. christ even crappy £100 netbooks can run the thing

Uh, right. Thanks for your reasoned reply that got to the root of my question...

I attempted to run BF3 beta on XP (already having read it won't work on xp but forgot that by the time the beta was out) lucky I had windows 7 on dual-boot :p

note: if your installing windows 7 for the first time firstly check your drivers for any printers/scanners and other stuff you may have, also win 7 dosn't have outlook express (or ANY email program pre-installed so bear this in mind) and if you do a dual-boot install I recommend installing XP first then 7 later (on a different drive) then use EasyBCD on the win 7 install to set up XP how you want it i.e. order/timer/rename

Dear Santa,

Please could you give me a copy of Windows 7 - 64bit would be great, and also give me some more ram too.

Hmm... how to do it on the sly without wife finding out I am spending the dosh on 'computer stuff'? :P

tell her its an update and buy it digitally :)

Who could blame anyone for sticking with XP after experiencing the "joys" of Vista ? OK, Win 7 has been out for a while, but an XP owner could use the excuse "if Win 7 is anything like Vista, I'll stick with XP".

Yes, I do hate Vista.

thats why i didnt upgrade to win 7 until i tried it my mates computer

i also hate vista, as do all logical, right-minded people ;) :p

There is no "free months trial" or any legal form of acquiring the Win 7 image without owning a license beforehand.

Yes there is, you can even go upto 120 days as kierenharrold kindly pointed out.

Install any win7 version and dont put a key in, and windows installs anyway... the month period (28days is it?) is how long will pass untill windows starts to tell you to buy a key/retail copy.

Simple, legal, try before you buy.

Drivers are definitely worth checking - a lot of people moan that their old printer doesn't have driver support >.<

Windows 7 does have a mail client

May not be preinstalled all the time but it works fine if you dont have Outlook

Yay, Win 7 installed as part of a dual boot.

Getting drivers updated and BF3 installed now :)

Looking promising - and it should run on low/medium settings at a low res! No different to any other games I play tbh. I don't tend to use all the bells and whistles!

But how do you actually download Win7 legally? Can you literally go to Microsoft website and click download Win7 without handing over any money or details? Im curious?

Just google Win 7 Enterprise Trial - you need to be an 'IT Professional' in order to be given the option to download it.

It's a 90 day trial, but can be extended to 120.

Doubt you could get a full, no time limit version for free... legally!

I believe that is because Enterprise edition is not available to the public, it's only available via TechNet or MSDN. I'm not 100% sure on that though.

still better than vista to be fair

Vista is a great OS as I used it for 1-2 yrs before win7 came out, vista and win7 are not that much diff accept vista is a bit more memory hungry then win7. Basically vista should have been win7 I think, as the upgrade to win7 from vista isnt worth it.

Just use thunderbird if you can't afford MS Office.

I can afford MS Office and still use Thunderbird. :p

I got my W7 key on fleabay for £24 so don't worry about forking out 90 odd quid on a full retail copy with discs, just download it :D

What kind of license does the key have?

Just download it is advocating piracy. There are legal Windows 7 download keys but they aren't cheap.

OP would be better off getting an upgrade version since he already owns Windows XP.

If he was a student or a teacher, Windows 7 Professional Upgrade can be had for £38.50, Windows Server 2008 R2 for free off Dreamspark or even full Windows 7 if you have access to MSDNAA (that's where most cheap Windows 7 keys come from and they are just as illegal as downloading the system for free but on top of that you support piracy by pumping money into it).

Again, getting the wrong license is just like having no license so it's best to choose wisely.

Just a normal retail key (full licence) that you get when you buy it for £100+ from the purple shirt store!

Yeah, so it's from MSDNAA and you fuel piracy by paying for it.

Should have done a little research before you got that key.

On the side note, regional licenses are regional only so it's illegal to buy Windows 7 from other regions of the world afaik.
