Band of Brothers

Can anyone tell me how many episodes there are? There are only 5 available on the Virgin TV on demand service, and I have watched 4, but only seem to be about half way through the book story line.

Ahhh the regular Band of Brother = Awesome Thread, if it were any other subject i'd be bored of it but BoB is awesome in its uber-awesomeness :D

Cue post about the pacific follow up series and the questions about how long its taking them to get it into production...

Hehe my thoughts exactly. I get fed up of the "what antivirus" threads in Windows forum but Band Of Brothers deserves all the threads we generate here.

And yeah every BoB thread inevitably leads to a Pacific sequel chat.:D

You cant beat the ending 2 episodes!

If you dont blub you have no soul :D

When the names came up at the end of the last one, where you finally match the actors to the guys narrating the start of each episode, it gets ya.

The 'docs' kids keep a website for him, the thank you messages from kids of soldiers he saved is quite something.

Some of the WW2 history know it all's at my work, both English and German spotted a lot of bull in the show. How it had been 'hollywooded' and some areas that company or the americans hadnt even been at such and such a time. Didn't detract at all from my enjoyment of what is without doubt one of the best TV shows I've ever seen.

I also quite like TV adaption of Hero's the late 80's story on the pacific which had Jason Donovan in it (dont let that put you off) :D

Watched one of the endings and one guy was asked

"Are you a war hero"
and he answers
"No, i was in a group of heros"

or something to that effect, defiantly lump in throat time

These two quotes are so so true. You really get a feel for the sacrifices these men and others like them made for their generation and indirectly us. Glad to see that its not just me who has a tear in their eyes watching the last episodes.

I was starting to have a marathon with this series a month ago. Had disk 2 in my 360 and that night I got robbed and they took the 360:( . So now I have an incomplete boxset. We are claiming on insurance when I get round to it. Hopfully get the HD-DVD version or atleast the R1 DTS version.

Anyway. BoB.

Stupidly awsome. Great sound, visuals, acting (Although everytime I watch it I cant help thinking of Ross from Friends) and above all a truly believable story.

Its one of those series where you HAVE to watch the next part. I cant wait till the snowy episodes. Love them. Then theres the episode that are based in Austria. The senery is amazing. When they are walking in the town where the German Heirarchy (sp) live. Those buildings and interiors are superb. So scary too in a little way.

I am always happy when they come into contact with the concentration camp, not happy because of the malnutritioned people but how they helped save them and the soldiers forcing the locals to help out.. really makes my cry.

Just awsome.

Edit: When they surrender. The German officer wanted to surrender to a US army sergeant and, I think, was handing the US man his sidearm. The US sergeant told him to keep it. Respect. I think thats what happend.

I can thoroughly recommend the book too, it has been really well researched and takes pride in its accuracy. It goes into lots more detail about the characters than the series does, and explains the reasoning about loads of tiny 'snippets' in the series that don't really make much sense without the explanation behind them in the book.

For example, the book really goes in depth about the training at Curahee and how Sobel was the one who really made the Company bond and turned them into a 'Band of Brothers', but felt that this didn't really come out as strong in the series as in the book as he came across as just 'an officer' on TV (or Ross :D ), but he played a much more pivitol part in the forming and training of Easy and the feud that ensued between him and Winters.

In fact, I think it would be better to read the book before watching the series.

I totally agree. The book explains a lot about their training and although most still hated Sobel after the war they admit that his strict training meant they were prepared for what they faced.

The book is simply fantastic peppered with facts and littered with subnotes directing you to other books etc.

I'd recommend grabbing as many of Ambrose's books as possible. All as good as eachother.

Parachute Infantry by David Webster is another book about Easy company and gives a very different perspective on events.

care to elaborate?

It was written by Webster from his letters home and recollections after his discharge from Easy.

It gives an insight into his thoughts and feelings during his time with Easy.
