I'm sat here watching a DVD of my favourite band. Well done you may say. The thing is, my favourite band never really made it. I think they are great, I belt out their tunes with gusto, and I will never get bored of them. Their music makes me feel good, or sad or whatever. They are brilliant.

That is, of course, MY opinion.

Now, I would like to know who your favourite band is that never *REALLY* made it to the big time but should have!

My nomination is GENE.

Brilliant band, Martin Rossiter is a legend. I've seen them 3 times in various places. They had a few top tens, but never really cracked the big time, and I think they should have done far better!

Who is yours? And why?

Paul

they would never have made it 'big' (they never wanted to) but the only band which I wish were still around are miocene.

iron monkey too. hell, I just wish johnny morrow was still with us...I could live with that.

and if .com had gone platinum for psi, they may not have made the shoddy albums they tailed off with...

I'll never understand why Shed 7 weren't massive. They produced some of the greatest pop-rock tunes of the 90's, and in my opinion released their best album in 2004.

Sadly now gone, there's some solace in the form of new band Rick Witter & the Dukes who are as good as Shed 7 ever were and of course sound the same thanks to having the same frontman. The new album 'The Year of the Rat' is awesome and the songs are better than 95% of what's in the charts, but again they'll almost certainly never be 'big'.

The Wildhearts.

This band should be the biggest band in the world.
Why? - Take every major rock band/artist you've heard such as The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Metallica, Beach Boys, Hollies, Buddy Holly, T.Rex, Slade, Queen etc, mix them all in a big pot and you might get somewhere close.
I honestly can't think of one bad song they've wrote.

Yep, they were class. As said above, 'On Standby' is in my all time favourites list. I think I'll check out the other band you mention to see what the crack is!

I'll stick a vote in for Baby Chaos, doubt many will have heard of them, but their first album was great. Think they are now called Deckard, but just not the same.

I'll 4th that , I thought it was just me been bias as they are from york as well.

Bully boy , on standby and going for gold all class songs. Sure he made a few quid mind ;)

For some reason I always got the impression Shed 7 were never accepted by the NME brigade. They are neither rock nor the crap music the NME love to tell everyone they have to be listening to otherwise they nothing about music. Shame really.

Reef where good as well.

I think your right about NME , and shed 7 they where never accepted really if my memory serves me right only they will know why

I don't think they really had(have) the potentially to be massive, but I always expected The Charlatans to be more successful than they were/are. They have a similar sound to the Roses and I don't see why they never managed to quick pick up the mantle and carry it forward. Especially considering britpop was very big in the mid-late 90s; although I suppose one could argue that there was 'too much competition'.

Alexi Murdoch

I first discovered him from the House U-OST with Orange Sky and honestly i cant put down his album 'Time Without Consequence'. Every track leaves its mark in an overwhelmingly relaxing way.

He is criminally underplayed.

Does "not made it in the UK" count? Coz I have always loved "Live".

'Sweet feet, little swami only wears a sheet... and I sang the dirt song...'

'And you go and crash that beautiful silence with some talk about finding yourself in your mother's arms..."

Top man, top band. Both me and my mother love Live.
