Bands that you can't understand why they're popular/famous?

You guys must be older than me then. I like coldplay!

I agree with the Black eyed peas though. Just no hint of talent there.

Coldplay- Insipid.
Kings of Leon- Whoaaaa ohhh ohhh all our songs sound the saaaaaaame.
Metalica- ??????????
Iron Maiden- ????????????????????????????????????????????

The Quo- One of my uncles many years ago bought himself a premium sound system, back then (mid eighties) it was a lot of money, I remember my auntie being very unhappy as it was silly money.
Anyhow, his ENTIRE record collection consisted of................Quo records. Even then, I couldnt understand how anybody could like them, certainly not to the extent that he did.
Fast forward to now, I work with a guy who is in his mid fifties, he lives for the Quo, he has Quo tats, clothing, he goes to concerts, he lives for the Quo.
I still cant see the appeal.

Surely this is just going to be people listing pop bands though? The clue is in the title... thread seems a bit pointless if you don't mind me saying.

If you want to count Muse as a pop band then that's fine by me, lots of my mates think they're great but I can't say I've ever liked them. They're not the worst band in the World, I just don't understand why so many people like them.

The strangest part of it is that I only started saying that I didn't like them much to annoy a guy I knew who thought they were the best thing ever, then figured I should actually listen to them a bit more and decide properly if they were any good or not - sometimes you make the right choice even if it is for the wrong reasons.

Ah, had a big argument the other day with mates about Coldplay, I like them, they don't. I won't go there.

Anway, Robbie Williams, 1 good song, lots of trash...

REM?
Radiohead?
Muse?
RHCP? (I don't even like them)
Arctic Monkeys?
Hell even Coldplay?

WTF are you guys smoking, can you not understand why these bands are famous or even just a little bit famous?

I often try to understand why bands are so popular, and occasionally I'm surprised despite my original preconceived ideas about a band. This has led me to enjoying some popular stuff that I would otherwise have ignored. However, a lot of the time I'll find that I just don't like a band but will acknowledge why people will like them, just in the same why that I appreciate other peoples beliefs, cultures and ways of life.

Most of the bands mentioned seem legitimately popular as far as I'm concerned...

I honestly don't get the big deal with Kings of Leon or The Arctic Monkeys. So. Dull.

As for Muse... They started well, but things got a wee bit pretentious around Absolution. Then they got more pretentious with Black Holes and Revelations. Then they released The Resistance. I'm not sure they'll be able to record another album because the acoustics up Matt Bellamy's arse are terrible.
