Bands that you can't understand why they're popular/famous?

Kiss

Me and my friends were talking the other day, and we really really dont know why they are liked apart from their 'act'. Awful music, really bad.

Oh and already stated, Iron Maiden. Just dont see the appeal

Theres loads I personally cant stand or see any talent in, but each to their own.

Coldplay - hate them
Kings of Leon - how did they make it to an A list band I will never know
Macy Gray - sounds like a throat cancer paitent
The Libertines - gash
Lil Wayne - to$$er

Most people seemed to have completely missed the point of this thread and just listed bands they don't like (mostly massive stadium bands as well....must be cool not to like them!).

I dont particularly like Oasis or U2 or Coldplay but it makes perfect sense why they are 3 of the biggest bands in the world. Surely the thread is about bands that are famous that seemingly possess no talent, charisma or the ability to write good songs. There can only be 1 answer to this question imo. Ladies and gentleman, I present........

THE KAISERS CHIEFS.

Another vote for Black Eyed Peas. Also most of the 'bands' that have been spawned from the likes of the x-factor, not including some rather good solo singers.

All looks, no substance.

Dannii Minogue.

I mean what's the point, seriously? I actually don't know any of her songs right off the top of my head.

Also, while I'm here hmm...

The Beatles. I think they're one of the most overrated bands ever. Just because you're the first to do something doesn't mean you're the best at it. Now I haven't sat down with their entire back catalog but I've heard enough of them on Last.fm and such to decide that they are definitely not for me. I don't get why they were, and still are rabidly popular.

Im gonna stand up for FOB here. Not a massive fan but they consistently write catchy hooks and good pop songs. IMO that's a little unfair on them.

"catchy" doesn't make you a good band, and I'd really disagree with anything they've done be more then average.

Dannii Minogue.

Danni woman is just living of her sisters fame.

@ The Beatles. Just wow.

The Beatles were fantastic, still are and I still listen to them. I fully understand because you were the first doesn't make you the best, but at least you did it first and had the talent to be the first ;)

The Beatles - one of the all time best bands period imo, deff one of the best things to come out of this country.

I'm not a fan of The Beatles but to say you can't understand why they're popular...just wow. Same for several of the bands mentioned on here.

There are several bands i think don't deserve to be popular, but I can understand why they are.

My band does 2 KISS songs because my bass player is the biggest fan ever and has over 10000 live bootleg DVDs of them (with more coming every week).
I always announce a KISS song by saying something like 'We're going to play a tune by probably the biggest rock band in the world who nobody knows the songs by' and then go into Rock And Roll All Night or Shout It Out Loud.
I always thought the songs never suited the image.

I'm very surprised to hear that considering you're a guitarist.

Don't remember mentioning that Gilmour was crap, just the music he plays.
The best I've seen Gilmour is on a Paul McArtney DVD Live At The Cavern.

Forgot the main one now -

Muse - what's that all about

Muse are brilliant but unfortunately their increase in popularity seemed to coincide with a downturn in the quality of their actual music. Origin of Symmetry is their only undeniably great album, the others are a little hit and miss.

A lot of modern ****, X factor stuff etc.

But the one group I can't understand are successful is Scouting For Girls. Their songs have a couple of lines that are repeated over and over. What a load of ****.

I was watching the full 8+ min version of American Pie on youtube the other day where only the chorus is repeated. That is a proper song.
