Banished - upcoming city-building strategy

How on earth do you guys manage to get so much firewood?

I mean i litterally had 4 foresters and 2 wood cutters, providing less then 100 pop and i was always running low.

I had about 7 foresters and 3 woodcutters for a population of 150. But like arknor said, you need the storage close by to be efficient.

I think a lot of people also aren't changing the limit for materials gathered as their town grows and then find they can't keep up in the winter (this is designed so you can manage the amount of storage barns you need). You need to manually increase the limit of which they harvest resources so then they have enough stockpiled to keep going, otherwise they'll run out of materials.

The way i had it setup was like this:

Woodcutters where the other side of the river closest to the market.

Each cluster was: 1 Forester, 1 Herbalist, 1 Hunter and 1 Gatherer All maxed out

May try this out. I always have the herbalist and forester in separate areas and then the hunter and gatherer together. I always thought the forester would disrupt the rest and so on.

It's all about balance, as the forester will also plant new trees as well as cutting down mature trees. In my current village I have resource satellites set up with a hunting cabin, gatherer hut, forester and herbalist hut, along with houses and a barn for storage. All people are maxed out per station apart from the forester, which I keep to one or two. That way they won't ever cut down enough trees to have a damaging effect on the output of the gatherers and herbalists.

Currently got two of those satellites set up along with a central node containing one iron and one coal mine, stone quarry, a dedicated forester for cutting down and producing logs, and the admin buildings and associated houses. I believe I got a market setup last night too.

One of my satellites has both a woodcutter and a tailor, which produces plenty of leather clothes for my population and then some, so the excess gets put into my trade outpost. I have a second woodcutter in my main town as well as my blacksmith. Same as the tailor, all the excess gets piled into the trade outpost.

Supporting 52 adult population at the moment, with 10 in school and 10 out of school from what I remember.

Couple of crashes now on my current game, maybe it is getting too big, almost 600 population. Shall start a new one I think.

my population dropped to 16 people and they are mostly in their 70"s :( i have more than enough houses but they only have 1 person in them.

fantastic game though.

Although my market town is managing quite well, I don't think there can be much long term expansion, I'm just too limited by my terrain, I don't have enough flat land for much arable farming.

tbh I am pretty surprised that there isn't windmills and bakeries in the game, they seem like rather important parts of a semi-subsistence farming set-up like this.

Also long term I'd like to see things like pottery/jewellery production which would give better return in trading.

These sounds like a nice idea - does the developer have a channel for feedback/suggestions?

I've been making some videos on Banished on my channel as of late and I think they'd help some people who are struggling to get started. :)

Standard Start

All you need to know about Food Production

I'll be releasing more of these type of videos each day at 5pm along with my Let's Play (It's being done again tomorrow as I royally ****ed up in my current one) at 6pm.

I'd appreciate some constructive criticism. (I know that I mumble a lot, it's something I'm trying to fix)

Too many houses mate, keep them limited to avoid people living alone in separate houses. Only build a new house when you see a couple have 3-4 people living in them, thats what i have been doing any my population just keeps growing.

Just had a tornado tear through my forester/hunter area and kill about 6 or 7 people but got so many it doesnt really seem to matter lol.

I can help you with one thing straight away, with volume up full on youtube and my laptop you have a really quiet voice still.

Just had a quick watch of your standard start video, some nice tips in there.

One thing I picked up on is the gatherers hut by the foresters lodge. The tutorial states that the gatherers hut is more efficient when next to older, more mature trees, if you put this by the foresters lodge does that not make it less efficient. So far I have been keeping them separate.

I've been trying to find the sweet spot for the audio so I'll put it up again for the future videos to see if it's any better.

The foresters lodge cut & plant trees through the season which is why they're good around the gatherer hut. The older and more mature trees work well with Herbalists as well. I think people have been putting the gatherer hut near the forester lodge as it isn't efficient land-wise if you put a gatherer hut in a large forest and then have nothing near it.

I'll take a look at some of this and get back to you with some stats on it. :)

Maybe it is the herbalist I am thinking of. But some stats would be interesting.

Edit: Just had a quick check of the tutorial - it is the herbalist.

It is phrased as "old trees". So I wonder how efficient the herbalist is when near a forester.
