Bank Issue

Paper?

There was no paper... As I said this all took place in with the bank advisor in her little cubicle. Done it all on computer.

I'll be heading back there on Monday to demand an explanation.

More fool you then.

Financial matters should ALWAYS be verified with written statements.

Back in February I strolled into my local Barclays, sat down with one of them financial assistants and requested that they cancel my overdraft.

I remember her giving me this confused look and questioning whether I really wanted to do that. She began advising that I simply reduce the overdraft..... I wasnt interested.

Anyway 15mins had gone and I had just about enough of her sales tactics. And told her to simply cancel the plan..... Job Done...

Today I check my account and notice that a small amount of monies had beed deducted from my account. The ref read "Payment Protection".

I had no idea what this "Payment Protection" was for. I mean it couldnt have been for the overdraft as I told Barclays to cancel it.

So I stroll over to my local bank to contact customer services over the phone. To my shock, the overdraft is still active  . Despite the customer services person being able to acknowledging the very fact that I made the request.

Not sure how I'm going to handle this yet..

Walk in with a banana under your coat, then proceed to make them under banana point change your account to not include an over draft.

I had the same problem about 2 years ago, I always have a 1k overdraft, not that I use it at all, just incase I desperately for whatever reason need it. It was £1'100 before that so not a dramatic decrease by any means, I got the whole 'are you sure' thing, was annoying as hell.

I made the account when I was 12 to bank my saturday day job money (£2 an hour, slavery or what!!!), working for my dads mate in a photo shop. They've since revised their account benefits/charges which are NOT better for me than what I'm currently getting, to this very day I get hounded weekly with them wanting me to change it :p

LOL @ strolling down to a bank branch to cancel an overdraft when you could have done it within seconds online.

It is 2012!

Via Barclays online banking?

I've not noticed the option to do so on there. I was told is have to speak with someone.

Raise a complaint, stress you have had costs and been put out having to travel to branch/ make calls.

Banks take complaints seriously, you should also get redress for the sum you have been charged for overdraft that should no longer exist and maybe £25 for the hassle.

Remember you are dealing with a person likely only wanting to help you when you speak to them so hold off from being an arse.

This is perfect advice, likely written by someone who works/has worked in a bank - follow the advice closely :)

Issue resolved.

Strolled into the bank today and explained the situation. The member of staff admitted she had made a mistake.

I asked whether or not I would be refunded. She paused then said yes!

I am calm!

Damn, so you were strolling down the road, fell over, messed your teeth up out side the bank who then signed you up for an over draft so you could pay for the dental work and they sold you dental protection that was really payment protection and sent everything to the wrong address.

Rough day bro!

Now go open a new account with a different bank, take all but a quid out of your barclays account and look smug as banks don't like people leaving very small amounts doing nothing with them...

Sales tactics?

The person in the bank doesnt care two hoots if you have an overdraft or not - They dont "sell" overdrafts and get nothing for you having one. It simply sounds like you were being good advice to keep the facility as a "just in case". Espcially as once they are gone it isn't always easy to get it back.

The payment protection is a different issue entirely which you need to deal with seperately, but would have had nothing to do with what the person you spoke to did or did not do.

Yes Sir.... "Sales tactics".

I knew what I wanted.... And made it crystal clear what I didn't want. However, this didn't stop the person from suggesting I simply reduce the overdraft or just keep it as it was.

My overdraft was not free. I was paying a fixed fee each month for the privilege. So forgive me for thinking they get something out persuading me to keep the overdraft.

Don't really like paying for a service I "might" use. So since I "know" I won't be using it I requested it be removed.

Payment protection was in fact part of the same issue (this was confirmed by Barclays).
