Hi,

I'm going to Barcelona on Tuesday for 3 weeks, before going to another part of Spain for the Sunsplash festival, and I was wondering who'd been there?

Where do you suggest visiting in Barcelona?
I heard the church is pretty brilliant, so I'll be going there as soon as I can.
Any recommendations greatly appreciated :)

Thanks,
yhack

went there a couple of years ago , great city

i visited barcalona football stadium , which was great , i also went to a buliding in the city which was designed by some artist but i cant think of the name. Its a very strange looking buliding right in the centre of barca that you can tour round

edit* Gaudi is the name i was looking for

I'll have a look, how long would you say it takes to get to from the centre of Barcelona?

Cool, I'll give that one a look aswell, thanks :)

Barcelona is a fantastic city.

The 'church' is called familia sagrada and when I went it was still officially classed as a building site! They still haven't finished building it from 60 odd years ago I think.
The other places include the gaudi buildings and park. I really enjoyed my time there.

Just be wary of the pickpockets in la ramblas, supposed to be the worlds most pickpocketed place.

Not long by metro if I remember rightly, theres a metro station fairly close to it. Also if you come from the metro (from the south as google maps says) go to the left (west) of it and not like we did, on non match days all the side gates are closed and it took us an age to walk around the outside anti clockwise. :o

Gaudi's work is great. Sagrada Familia (the church) is just magnificent also be sure to smile at the ticket booth girls, they seemed to like me and let me in for free :D Park Guell is also pretty nice and worth a visit.

The aquarium/sealife centre is also pretty nice, if there is a wet day or you like penguins and fishies.

EDIT: yeah as mithrandir says be wary of pick pockets, the lovely old lady at our apartment (that was just off of La Ramblas) warned us repeatedly but as long as your careful and stay away from the dodgy characters down the side streets, you'll be fine.

Also there was a lovely cafe here that did the some absolutely brilliant and huge double decker toasted sandwich meals which made a fantastic lunch after visiting the Sagrada Familia, doesnt sound that special but oh my they where yummy. Though by the looks of street view it may have changed ownership.
