Bargain 182

Ok probably not a bargain all things considered... but I still think it was cheap for what it is, atleast not over priced. How low could you expect to get one for? Anything under £1500 and you be breaking it for more?

I don't think its a bargain, I do think it's a fairly good buy though. I would get the belts done and run it for a bit - you may even grow to like it ;)

Do really like it.
How much for the belts done at an Indy? I know it's a big job on these. A friend had his 172 done at a main dealer a few years back and it was around £500.

Why are you not asking these questions BEFORE you decide to buy?!

Belts on a 182 are about 600ish IIRC.

Because Im intending to sell it as is apart from the bodywork and wheels, I know it's expensive from a dealer(500-600) but haven't priced it up at an Indy.

Surely most people will go;

"Hmmm lack of service history, current owners had it about 4 days, over 100k and might need £600 worth of work doing. Tell you what mate I'll give you £1500 for it."

So you are intending to sell it overdue vital servicing?

Are you trying to replicate the home trader stereotype 100% or something? :p

I sounds like a financial disaster waiting to happen. New owner drives home and the cambelt breaks, SOGA makes VTR responsible for repairs/making good/refund.

:eek:

Yes I bought it cheap IMO, intend to do the minor bodywork and wheels and make a small profit. Don't think there are many 2005 182s for much under 2500 for sale, and especially not around here. I'll be looking for closer to 2k, making it cheap enough to allow the new owner to get the belts etc done.

Belts at an Indy will be similar to at Renault. The parts themselves are expensive and its a days worth of labour regardless.

I got both belts and the dephaser done at mates rates labour and cost price for the parts and it was just under £600.

Thanks for the info, do you remember how much the parts were?

So let me get this right, you are looking to sell this for £400 more than you paid with partial service history, you've owned for days, has done over 100k, is frenchh and potentially needs £600 worth of work doing on it. All this while;

*Offering the legal protection a buyer has, such as replacing a gearbox 5 months after they bought it if it breaks
*Paying tax and NI.
*Having trader insurance

You would have to dodge the tax, have no insurance and flog everything as 'sold as seen' to even consider not making a loss on this idea.

400-600 is what I've been making on the small run arounds, granted there is a lot more to go wrong with a car like this.

I bought Laura's 2005 182 for £2100, with belts done and FSH. I don't think there is going to be much, if any margin. If you do the work yourself, that's a different matter, but correct me if I'm wrong, I think your just a buy cheap shift it on (and add no value)

Yeah tbh I might just do the bodywork and wheels myself and sell it on as is. What was the mileage on that one?

I can't see no your target market is. The average person will stay away from a 100k+ mile Clio especially if the correct maintenance hasn't been done. Yes if it's ridiculously cheap and worth a punt, but you will have to put your margin on top plus associated costs (travelling to/from Essex for example). You are looking at £2000+ with not a penny spent on it before its even worth doing this.

It was £100 travel, so the car stands me in £1700. Got the paint there for the bumper scuffs and the wheel refurbs so that's just half a days work then.

Surpising the difference in the car market around my area though, prices are really inflated, I still think I'll make a bit on it.
