OK... after the previous 182 thread, which the general opinion was that it really wasn't a bargain - today I picked up an X5 at a really good price (IMO).

It's a 2003 X5 3.0D Sport, Silver, 125k miles.

Full service history up to 105k, (oil, insp1, insp2 etc) receipts for recent work for complete new set of injectors and turbo. 4 new tyres. 9 months MOT (no advisories), 3 months TAX. 3 Previous owners. 2 wheels need a refurb and 1 small scracth drivers side door, apart from that very good condition just needs a valet. Only fault, ABS light is on, diagnostic show steering sensor of some sort.

What would you say is a bargain price?

A nearly 10 year old gas guzzler with, over 100k on the clock a fault light, poor cosmetic condition and short tax...
3k?

The cosmetic condition is excellet tbh apart from the minor scratch and 2 wheels being curbed and needing a good overall clean :)

Are we going to get a bargain thread from you on a daily basis now?

I take it you realise buying cars like this cheap on trade terms isn't a 'bargain' but a reflection of risk involved? Especially as you are liable for some of the issues your gullible eventual punter finds...

£4500.

It was a friend of a friends, she'd been offered £5600 from webuyanycar, told her they would knock her down if she takes it there, so she offered it to me for £5000 then it developed the ABS light so she took it in for diagnostic, they said it's showing up as a steering sensor so she said for a quick sale £4500. She mentioned how much she was selling it for to the garage and they were trying to do the deal with her there and then.

Good buy I think?

No won't be a daily thread that's for sure! As I said, just part time trading, just trying to gather a few different opinions :)

And yes of course I realise the risk involved, just personally thought these 2 were pretty good deals - always good to get another opinion?

And to think, i got MikeMeeow on my case for buying my mum a £100 Clio with a snapped cambelt and ten months MOT...how times change...
:D

Both cars are old, high mileage with a couple of issues. The X5 could probably throw up some serious bills. If the issues can be sorted for a small outlay, the cars are sold for a decent profit and then cause the buyer no problems in the short term then I guess they are decent buys. As fox said, using the word "bargain" might be pushing it slightly.

I think this is a much better buy than the Clio, it's very recently had the big bill work done (new turbo and full set of injectors), it's been properly serviced and well looked after, the wheels just having minor kerbing and there is a small scratch on the drivers side door and the whole car needs a good clean, 1 days work basically. (obviously plus the ABS light issue)

Agreed, bargain may be optimistic but from the reaction of the garage practically biting her hand off to buy this there and then I think it's a very good deal.

Regarding high mileage - having recently had the turbo and injectors, wouldn't a car with this mileage be favourable over an 80k car approaching these big bills?
