If you've got to go with some rusty, old slow classic at least keep it British . From my first car research a few years ago the Morris Minor owner's club had their own insurance scheme which had people as young as 17 and 18 insured for as little as £300.

As long as you done mind setting the 'But it's old and therefore rubbish' crowd straight Classics are the way to go. I remember having a Triumph Spitfire quote for £900, Dolomite Sprint quote for £1100 and a quote for a 5.3L Jag XJS V12 quote for £1800 odd (baring in mind I was getting quoted more for 1.0L hatchbacks it was like winning the lottery ). Shame I bottled it and went for something newer .

mainly the beetle because i just love them. i dont know why. its something about them which is great!

my insurance on one of those is only £1400, 1.6L

It's hardly a strange choice - probably one of the most popular classic cars in the world. Not my cup of tea mind.

its a very sound choice! wont lose too much money if any at all, great fun, easy to repair if needs be, and im buying it off of my Gf's dad so I know where to take it if anything goes wrong! Oh and it has bigger pistons and twin webers

edit: i know its not a cheap car to buy (around £2000) but its the re-sale value if kept in good condition thats the thing!

Yup, broken earth lead from engine to chassis...cost to repair...£0

. Look on my mums face when her stationary/non-running car told her it was doing over 100mph parked outside the local Co-Op...priceless!!!

£100 for the car, plus £145 and an oil filter to get it up and running. Decided to stick a new waterpump on it as well just in case...scrapped my mums old Fiesta so had a few quid to play with that wasn't coming out of my pocket!!!

On the downside they do have a tendency to rot quite badly. Small French hatchbacks tend to suffer many faults, but the French seem to have cracked the rust problem.
