Just picked up a new car for my girlfriend on sunday, her cars catalyser has snapped in two and now sounds like a v8 race car.

Anyway its a w reg, 2000 Renault megane 5 door hatchback, has air con, central locking electric windows, electric sunroof electric wing mirrors, everything works.

1 owner from new, elderly chap that recently died, gave it to his sons daughter who just passed her test but cant afford to insure it.

It has 47k on the clock, full service history, 4 good tires, engine sounds mint 11 months MOT, and 5 months tax

No bumps scrapes or major scratch's on it, interior is like new.

How much do you think we paid for it?

Will get pictures up this evening.

Guy was not actively trying to sell it, a friend did some work for him and mentioned he had a lot of cars on his small drive, and said he was going to try and sell the megane as its unused and gave him the story about his dad dying.

He was not bothered about the money, the guy has a fairly high income, and he was more bothered about the car going to a good home and being used, rather then some one selling it on or abusing it as it was his dads.

He originally wanted £300 for it, i did not argue as i thought that was a bargain, handed over the cash, and he started counting it, got to £60, and gave it us back and said keep it in case anything needs doing on it!

So paid £240, it also have over a half tank of petrol, so that's around another £35, so all in got it for around £210 taking off the petrol in the tank.

Sell it on and then get something Japanese.

Girlfriend is over the moon with it at the moment, she would have loved a civic like mine, but no chance at £240, atleast 2.5k-£3k for a decent one.

Will more then likely keep this for the 11 months left on mot, mot it again, and sell it on for £600.

Should get £100-£150 scrap for her punto, and sell the tires separate as they are brand new for another £150.

Coming from her punto which is a dying 1.2, 0-60 in 15 seconds? To this megane 1.6, 0-60 in 9 seconds, its like a race car to her :P

If it gives you trouble free motoring for 6 months then I'd consider it a bargain.

Certainly worth the £240.00 finding out. Nice find.

Autotraders facts and figures are plucked out of thin air most of the time.

Like already said. If it gives you no hassle, it is a bargain! Can break it and earn 3x the money back, if it does decide to die.

Or just scrap for not a great deal less than you bought it for.

Well it pulls well anyway, plenty faster enough for her over her punto, yea if it lasts the 11 months which im pretty damn sure it will, its literally the cleanest 13 year old car i have ever seen, it owes me nothing and im pretty sure i will get double what i paid for it back if i come to sell it

Yeah, Autotrader are infamous for incorrect figures. They said that my 330i SE had a 0-60/62 of 7.0s whereas the 330i Sport of the same year came in at 6.5s.

Why not just get the cat cut out and a decat section welded in and the car is good to go again? cars pre 2001 dont need a cat for mot.

Sounds like a proper bargain. My next door neighbor picked up a mint T plate Corsa with 26k on the clock. Yeah so it is a Corsa etc. etc. but his Neon had a faulty auto box and other issues so for the £250 he paid for it he was really got out of a hole. Plus he knew the previous owner and the cars history.

No matter what the car I'd snap up something like that just so I can save my MX5 for when I want to drive it rather than the daily grind!

Thought it was pre 93 if the car didn't have one fitted from the factory.

Pre 2001 definitely need a cat!
