Base component selection, Ryzen5

Checked out the price of 5900x and noped out real quick. Even 5800x is eating most of the budget. Think i'll stay with 5600x for kids pc, will be going 5900x for my main workstation (Corel / Laser cutting graphics prep / occasional GIMP/PS job).

Presently (Comments ?):

That's why I suggested the cheap Bgrade 3600 for £140 or less if you make them an offer and then go for a 5900X in a couple of years when it's going for what the 5600X is going for now.

The 5600X is wasted until you get a card that's as fast as a 3080 and by that time the 5600X will be struggling and need replacing anyway as games make use of more cores.

Going for best value so ryzen 5 3600 and not the new 5000 series , using the included heatsink etc

or the 3600 as per quote for even less

I initially started looking at it with 3600 in mind, but knowing how long i keep my tech alive i'm not sure i want one gen old tech to start with. This is why my old tech stayed old - no compatibility inter-generationally with intel - you get sandy, you stay with sandy. I just learned that, apparently, i can drop different gen's in the same motherboard with amd ? This confuses me a bit, to tell the truth...

AMD are bringing out zen 3+ CPUs at the end of the year that will be faster again than the current 5000 ones although I'm not sure these will be supported by B450 boards so it may make sense to spend a bit more now and get a B550 while spending a bit less on the CPU then having the option of dropping in a stronger CPU later on.

Just for reference this was the difference I found when jumping from a 3600 > 5800X with an RTX 3080 and as you can see even with a strong GPU it goes from small to no difference at all.

Ok, recalculating... :D

3600x
550(+?) mobo, as futureproof as possible (r7-r9?)
2x8gb ram
air cooler

What motherboard then in this scenario ? So tat when the time comes i can just drop in fatter cpu of 5000+ ?

Any B550 or X570 will support the new Zen 3+ but I have a feeling that B450 won't since AMD didn't even want to give 400 series boards Zen 3 but later backtracked after an angry outcry, they then stated that Zen3 would be the last CPUs which would be supported.

What would be the major differences between B550 and X570 ?
The main difference is X570 supports PCIe gen 4.0 from the chipset while B550 only from the CPU so with B550 you can run 1 nvme at gen 4.0 speed while the other m.2 is gen 3.0 but on X570 both will run gen 4.0

For a gaming setup B550 is fine.

Is there a marked real difference between 3600 and 3700 ? Just looking at b grade stuff and considering if +2 cores worth 50 quid ? :D

#Edit# Correction - 60 quid difference

I'm looking at x570 because pcie4.
Looking at 3700x and its +2 cores and 65w tdp ? 3600x is 6 cores and 95w ? what gives ? And no non-b-grade 3700x's in the shop ? Why ?

Recalculating again...
Comments on mobo ?

Dont really care about it as i have very airy case - ancient Antec900 with a MASSIVE fan going on top of it (200mm ?). Not going for a silent build. More interested in the mobo's overall futureproof-ness...

#Edit# and need it all quickish, lest my kids rip my head off in blind withdrawal from Ark rage :D

Thats a bit pricy ?
What about X570 Phantom Gaming 4 ?
The gaming 4 is not a very good board and has poor VRMs, the trouble with going X570 is you need to spend around £200 to get a good board while you can get some very good B550s for under £150.

Also the X570 has chipset fan which adds another point of failure in the future although they are bringing out fan-less versions in the near future.

All these boards would be solid options depending on what your looking to spend and some are on very good discount offers.

The best value Ryzen is the 1600AF. About half the going rate of a 3600. 1600AF and B450
