Basic mince receipe - Ideas?

basic huh?

heat pan and brown mince in pot with a little butter, add an OXO cube.

Add carrots and onions add water(2/3 of pot) bring to the boil then simmer for 30mins
Add Bisto gravy granules.
Boil potatos and cabbage in separate pots. both for 25mins.

Quick question, with all the fat that is generated...is it best to pour it down the sink or burn it off? :o

... Line a dish with some kitchen roll (3 or 4 layers) and once the mince is all browned pour it into that dish ... let it sit for a minute so the kitchen roll soaks up all the fat then return back to the pan ;)

Seriously do not ever pour fat down the sink :(

The hideous things it does to the drainage system are like something out of nightmares.

It goes in the bin.

Chop some onions and fry with garlic and ginger. Add in a teaspoon or two of chilli powder, about half a spoon of tumeric and the same with cumin and coriander powder (think its the seeds crushed). Fry for a bit and then add in the mice. Add in some tomato purée and cook it for a bit. You could either have it like that or add in some water and leave it to simmer for a while till it reduces. Serve with rice :)

are you looking for base mince recipes you can make loads of dishes out of. or actual recipes.

And the people who say use a jar need shooting. Not cheaper, no where near as nice taste and things like spag bol and chilli are so easy to cook

Does homemade chilli taste better than the packet stuff? I tried making homemade curry loads of times and it always end up tasting bland.

What i usually do is make the chilli with Colemans packet mix then add a heaped teaspoon of hot chilli powder or sometimes a fresh chilli with seeds. The mix contains cumin, chilli powder, cocoa and other spices etc.

I also always put 2 tins of tomato in, one peeled plum and one chopped, then simmer it for a good 3/4 to reduce it a little.

... that all depends on where you bought the mince and how much you love your arteries besides once you add the seasoning / herbs / spices you will never know ....

Well I would have thought that cheap/poor mince is going to be leaner than higher quality mince.

That said, for most dishes I'd recommend draining it off, otherwise you end up with a dish that's too oily and unpleasant. If you're adding things like a stock cube, I doubt you're going to notice the difference in the flavour anyway.
