How do you pronounce "Bath"?

There is no r in the word bath, so why on earth would you add one? It's almost as stupid as saying "spar" instead of "spa".

By that token 'though' should be pronounced 'th-owg-h'.

Don't try and argue from consistency when it comes to pronunciation in English; it's a mess of a language ;)

Every language has variations in the pronunciation of its letters and combinations of letters. This is why the IPA exists – it's not possible to unambiguously denote the pronunciation of any word in a language using just the letters of that language itself.

Barth - I've lived up north for nearly 8 years and have picked up a few local words and sayings such as aye, lass as they're simply not said down south but am still able to say words correctly! :)

I'd say North begins at the border but hey... :p

Edit: Though would not be pronounced Th-owg-h since it's the combination of letters that make the sound. Adding and R in a word for no reason is different and stupid...
