Yeah I know what you mean, but the quote to get rid of that pipe was £1200 on its own, so for that I can handle a 20cmx20cm outcrop.

It could have been chopped off and a valve put in to only allow air one way. Patch the hole in the ceiling whilst plastering and a tile on the roof. £1200 seems a tad on the high side there.
