so iv tried various brands of silicone now and this is the 6th time iv had to re-do the silicone sealant since it keeps going mouldy. is there no permanent way to stop it going mouldy other than to keep re-sealing it?

You can get silicon with fungicide which will help. The stuff I've seen was guaranteed for 25 years. No idea what the particular brand was but it's quite common.

What do you use to clean yourself in the shower?

The single biggest thing that seemed to make a difference for me was stopping using natural soaps and moving to shower gels.

There is a lot of steaming up and we dont dry off the tub after. I will try that brand mentioned above.
Iv even used upol brand even that makes it no more than 6 months

Clean the old silicon off then use a good mould killer to get rid of the spores. Reseal with a good quality sealant and dry the sealant off after bathing or showering. You won't have an issue again. If anything stays damp long enough it will develop mould even quicker if there are still mould spores around.

Do you have an extractor fan? If not you should get one installed. You may also want to try something like a daily shower spray and regularly use a strong bleach like the AG Mould Spray linked above.

How often are you cleaning it? We use the dettol anti mould spray on it every time the bathroom is cleaned, roughly once every 1-2 weeks. I used the "no nonsense" silicone from screwfix and mine is still fine two years on.
