Batman: Arkham Asylum

damm this game and its fps drops wtf is wrong with it.

ati 9.9 and a 4890 powered by a 2.8 core 2 duo and 4gb ram and im always dropping to 35-45 in the action.

in the benchmark without vsync i can pull off around 90fps but when its ingame the fps will shoot down to 40 odd for the joker intro.when those lights go on its bam bye bye smooth feeling.

im sick of waiting for patches to play this awesome game.hopefully if i leave this one a few months it will be olished and refined by ati with working anti aliasing and without the fps drops.

anti aliassing makes little difference to fps and when i walk upstairs to the first boss whom you jump on it will go to 40 odd running up the stairs as if its loading or coming under stress when its not.

I'm on a 4870 1GB and using Cats 9.6. No slowdowns or anything to report. Game is very smooth even in the Scarecrows world, etc.

1920x1080 on Max. Rest of the specs are 8GB RAM and a Q6600 stock.

Can you check your AV, etc? Is the hard-drive thrashing?

P.S. Only just noticed that it's Mark Hammill who plays the Joker (well his voice anyhow)!

Hmm, sounds a bit odd, not that 40+ FPS is that bad though tbh but I guess still noticeable if it is a solid 60 most of the time. You sure you haven't enable PhysX by mistake?

Only other things I can think would be to o/c your CPU a bit, to maybe 3/3.2 GHz and see if that helps. Maybe use something like MyDefrag to just defrag the install folder. And install the latest DX redist from MS.

Anyone mastered the challenges? I'm trying to get the 30 or 40 chain combo attack thingy, and it's driving me nuts. I'll get into the flow, then blam, somebody goes and smacks batman round the upside of the head. I hate it when he doesn't counter in time.

the pc is kept at around 0-1% with defrag so my disk is in mint condition and i pull off 60fps in resident evil 5 np in dx 10.

i dont udnerstand batman tho and for me 40fps is not smooth at all i need 60 with vsync.

it seems like loading tbh i tried it on the lowest settings and it still has fps drops.on lowest its not smooth during certain scenes like grappling over the first boss who has ur mate strapped in a chair with a bomb.

If like me you had crashing issues with PhysX download the patch direct from Eidos as they found some versions got a corrupt patch file which can cause a lot of instability especially with the challenge rooms. This patch for me makes the game very stable now and I'm getting much better FPS as well with no stuttering anymore either its all around 60FPS with 1920x1200 + 2xAA + max everything else so it looks stunning. Shame ATI users do not get the full monty but thats ATI drivers & lack of funding PC game development like Nvidia for you ;)

Just completed this, its the first ever comic book/superhero game ive ever done from start to finish, and i loved it, i loved the challenges, and the upgrades, and i loved that there wasnt just 1 bad guy as you normaly see, the story was great, i think its the first game in a very long time that the story has interested me too.

ofcourse i could say it could have been better but i dont think i have anything bad to say, no crashes at all, no faults at all, so it was perfect for me. :)

Only a few more riddler things to do then I'm done! I don't suppose anyone knows how to get the Riddler ? which is listed on like a little island near the batcave? I am running out of ideas!

I would do but I can't even see where it is. It's like it's on a small island near the bat cave - but when I get to the bat cave I can't even see it. It makes me wonder if it's one I missed from Killer Crocs lair but KC's lair is now locked off after I killed him - is there anyway to get back there?

M.

There are none in Killer Croc's lair. You have to get into the bat cave and leave via the way you do when you first get the zip line. Go the the second island about half way up is a window. Then just glide across.

I really am loving this game, havent yet completed it but cant imagine im far off.

*SPOILER BELOW*

I just crapped myself on the part where you head back to the intensive treatment centre to search for killer croc's layer. Im heading down a corridor, batman coughs then all of a sudden my screen artifacts.

I was a split second away from punching my screen !

Just completed this today (not got all challenges done but the story is completed)

Awesome game, nice graphics, good fun, the fights are pretty fun
No bugs I came across, well coded game, no crashes etc :)

For those sitting on the sidelines, it's well worth the investment imo, one of the few games I actually bothered to play through.
