*** Battlefield 1 ***

OK I've tried BF1, it is genuinely a mess. Air power seems totally OP. Most of the time its just a twitch shooter in the trenches, but even that takes no skill as the guns are all spray and pray.

The planes in BF1 are a royal pain in the ass to say the least, the tank hunter plane kit makes short work of tanks and there's really nothing you can do to combat it if your sides planes aren't doing their job. The bombers can magically swoop over you at teabagging height and be totally silent (even with engines running), the amount of times i've been obliterated by a bomber which i didn't hear coming is comical. If you get a game where the planes are kept on a short leash it can be a pretty fun experience, unfortunately there's "clans" that do nothing but fly planes and seemingly haven't been outside since the game launched, so good luck if you run into any of these muppets.

Is the bomber the one that drops above you and twenty grenade icons appear all over the screen? Stupid.

Also half the levels are so dark people just camp in trench corners. Cheap deaths like that killed it for me.

That sounds more like the attack plane with the anti infantry kit, the bombers much bigger, slower and apparently has a stealth mode.

Well this was news to me to tonight, if you hold down the melee button for a second or so you can run around with your melee weapon. Always thought you could just tap the button to quick swing it or a take down in close, never realised you could actually select it like a regular weapon. :o

I watched a video of that on JackFrags where he lines up an entire enemy team and yup you guessed it, does the business, wipes the entire team. Go balance.

I’ve been trying to get into it for about 2 weeks now and struggling. I’ve played every BF since 1942 but this one doesn’t do anything for me. I’ve tried sniping and bullets just seem to disappear, I often die fully after getting behind cover, and the planes just ruin games, you see the pilots on 50-0.

Glad it only cost me £4.

Infantry combat wasn't great in bf1 (why they went RNG and not something like bf3/4 inf combat is baffling), but vehicle combat for the most part was brilliant. BF3 and 4 you got 10 feet out of your spawn in a tank or helicopter and all you heard was the lock on\missile incoming sound rattling your brain for the majority of the time you were in the vehicle. Bf1 you had plenty to worry about in a tank but it was far more rewarding combat imo than that of bf3 or 4. No lock on faggotry, no staff shells, no countermeasures, just whoever was more aware of their surroundings and had the better aim generally won the engagement.

Where they did screw up with the vehicles was the artillery truck and the tank hunter loadout on planes. The arty truck made the light tank utterly redundant, it could decimate a light tank easily with its far heavier shell, it was faster and could take around the same type of damage, so even face to face an arty truck usually came out on top with a standard or flanker light tank, mortar tank was more 50\50.

The tank hunter loadout on planes just led to frustration, unless the plane was attacking you from an angle where your cannon had a line on it then you were humped. A plane with that can easily take out even a heavy tank in a single pass, 2-3 cannon shots and a bomb drop and unless you have people armed with burtons piling out of the tank to shoot it down, or have pilots that weren't busy farming infantry kills you got your ass handed to you pretty quick.

That's very true regarding vehicles in BF3 / 4, you just seemed to be hounded all the time ;0.

I always preferred the infantry only maps and modes, although found latterly that choke points became the norm for maps such as Operation Metro and Locker. I wish they'd just remaster BF2

Recently upgraded to a 120hz GSync monitor, but can't hit 120hz even on low (1440p) It hovers around 90-100fps.
Had the same issue with the BF5 beta, with the game not hitting the fps cap but also no maxing out gpu (980ti) or cpu (Ryzen5 6 core @ 3.7).

I can max the gpu if I force a higher resolution scale though.

Must have a bottleneck somewhere? How do I find it?
Is this the elusive AMD memory bottleneck?

I think that might just be the limits of a 980ti. 1440p@144Hz is 1080Ti territory IIRC. I'm using a pair of 1070s at the moment to get a solid (capped) 135.

I recently picked this up when it was super cheap and got the premium for free so giving it a good go, not bad so far.

I'm running at WQHD @ 120Hz (GSync) with everything at ultra, generally get around 100-110 FPS but quite often it will drop to the 80s. The game seems to be pretty CPU intensive, I was playing with my buddy and he has a very similar rig to mine and his FPS was hovering around 60 and going below at times. The only real difference between our PCs is that I have a 6700k and he has a 6600k, both are at 4.5GHz. When joining an empty server his FPS was maxed out at his 100Hz refresh, the more people that joined the lower it got whilst mine stayed generally stable.
I did find this online earlier:
https://forums.battlefield.com/en-us/discussion/42847/high-cpu-usage-low-fps-potential-fix
Going to give it a try and do a bit more testing tonight.
relevant specs BTW:
1080Ti
6700k @ 4.5GHz
16GB 2667MHz
Alienware AW3418DW (3440x1440 120Hz GSync)
