Battlefield 2 rant

Mnutz i agree, claymores and grenades are fine, even in Karkand they're not too much of a nuisance, i enjoy trying to dodge them lol
An AA gun is needed for infantry, and the planes should be easier to hit. Other than that i think BF2 is gaming perfection. I still play it regularly this long after release, and for me thats quite an achievement!

I also think that anyone in a jet must request permission when firing upon a lone soldier or a jeep.

In RL and pilot would get a major rollocking for firing upon 1 soldier with thousands of £'s worth of bombs :D

Is it still stupidly easy for a group in a large helicopter to take over a point just by hovering over it, while everyone does all they can to take the damn thing down to no avail? Used to see that all the time back in 2005 when I played BF2. It would take far too much effort to bring one of those down.

They've totally nerfed this feature now. Firstly the blackhawk I presume you are talking about is a lot less effective now because the side mounted minguns do not have any real splash damage anymore, so it is a lot more difficult to take down targets whilst moving. Secondly, only the pilot can now capture a flag whilst inside the helicopter, which means everyone else has to jump out onto the ground to help capture.

With some skill and coordination, you can still use the blackhawk effectively and capture flags very quickly but it's nothing life before.

i just bought the deluxe edition.

I had it and sold it on but I have the urge to shout at my screen again in hopeless anger.

You really need to give it time. I think most people have this misconception that BF2 is a realistic tactical FPS (e.g. Ghost Recon/OFP/RvS) and so when they start to play, they get taken advantage of very quickly. BF2 relies on more CS style gameplay, except it is on a much larger scale with vehicles and planes. Yeah sure it has lots of odd quirks and general silliness, but most of them just require some minor gameplay adjustments to counteract. With the right people and a well admined server the game can be incredibly fun, which is all that matters to me really.

Which is where Project Reality comes in

BF2 is the longest running game on my hd, best replay value of any game I've had and I'm a huge half life etc fan.

Mind you, I never did get hold of the Special Forces expansion and I'm really tempted to get it now for the extra maps and weapons. Can anyone tell me if it's worth shelling out 15 quid on this now, or should I just wait for Crysis....

I'm just itching for some good wholesome fps blasting :D

Cheers

Project Reality people. Read about how it works. It solves so many of these things people don't like about BF2.
e.g. delay between throwing nades. And LOADS more improvemets, loads

I thought that aircraft were castrated a few patches ago?
there was uproar from the flyboys (me included) at the time. you could'nt fly across the map without being shot down.
it was an EA kneejerk reaction to complaints about balance.
maybe the later patches have changed the balance again, I dunno I don't play it anymore.

The best aerial fun in any BF game was Forgotten Hope.
The map "Battle of Britain" was pure heaven ;)

Hopefully the FH tean will get FH2 released soon and aerial combat will again revisit my screen.

I came back after about 1.5 years and to my amazement (or maybe not) the J-10 is still far too good compared to the other planes.

I used to love flying around all the time, I want to play again!
:)

<threadjack>
Where can I download the latest patch and get a good speed?

The thing i think should be change about the claymores is that you should be able to disarm them by shoting them or trowing a gren at them or something.

And yes the planes are just to good

Planes are too good if you ask me, possibly because I can't fly them for toffee. Do people use joypads for them? Using a keyboard, I may as well just fly them into things, it's the only way I can kill anything with them.

So anyway (thread hijack attempt #2) is Special Forces worth getting so late? I need more maps!!

The biggest problem with BF2 is the planes and helicopters are far to hard to shoot down. It takes no skill to get a big score a pilot. BF2142 on the other hand is a lot more balanced. It is funny to see the BF2 pilots try the same tatics they use in BF2 on BF2142. They just get repeatedly blown out of the sky time and time again.

The patch where they made the AA deadly meant pilots had to hug the terrain to avoid locks and also pull out of bombing runs sometimes to avoid being blown out of the sky. Now they just fly over , drop bombs, turn round, fly over drop bombs, turn around .....

;)

I never really liked SF to be honest. I'd say just download some of the mods about at the moment.

Project Reality is really good.
Also Desert Combat (I think its called) Heard decent things about that.
