Battlefield 2 rant

BF2 is the longest running game on my hd, best replay value of any game I've had and I'm a huge half life etc fan.

Mind you, I never did get hold of the Special Forces expansion and I'm really tempted to get it now for the extra maps and weapons. Can anyone tell me if it's worth shelling out 15 quid on this now, or should I just wait for Crysis....

I'm just itching for some good wholesome fps blasting :D

Cheers

I was a late comer to BF2 ... (always been a CS:S fan) BUT since getting it (last Dec) Ive never looked back and as for Special Forces I picked it up as the addon pack of a well known site second hand for a meer fiver and YES its well worth getting mate ... Warlord map is great... plus you will get some unlocks to boot :D

Hmm, might wait until I can find SF somewhere cheap then, not worth 15 quid for two decent maps.

Is Forgotten Hope a new addon for BF2? I thought BF2 was dead in the water now that BF2142 is out?

Project Reality looks interesting, is it playable as single player or just multi? I need some practice before unleashing my power :D ;)

The biggest problem with BF2 is the helicopters are far to hard to shoot down.

not true actually, I can pretty much own a heli pilot.

Couple of tricks for you.

Lock the heli but dont fire. They will 70% of the time fire flares straight away but the heli hasnt got the speed like th jet to escape lock range. So move AA away and then bring the heli back into view straight away, usually from above that way you loose the flares. Lock and then fire.

The best way that i prefer to deal with helis is with one of the jeeps with the 360 rotating turret on top. If you can hit the heli with that gun and hardly miss then it can take down a heli just as it hits maximum temprature.

actually no, any experienced jet pilot knows that missiles are useless against a good chopper pilot/ solo gunner.

if you intend to kill a chopper by slowing down to missile spam, then expect a tv missile in the cockpit of your jet. or one up the botty as you fly by :p

best thing to do is go to bomb mode so they can't tell your around, cannon it with one run watching the tracers and aim ahead of the chopper cockpit, the glass is the weakest part.

missile spamming also will leave you open for another jet to take you down. with no ammo your not going to do much.

for the j10 supremos, the f35 can take a j10 down everytime. have a look what the small centre circle on the f35 is for, keep the j10 lined up with that and providing the dont flare, every missile will hit no matter what evasion technique they are doing. :)

The thing i think should be change about the claymores is that you should be able to disarm them by shoting them or trowing a gren at them or something.

Yep I think this is a good idea. A single direct shot should make it explode. Another good idea would be for there to be a small delay when placing a claymore, which would require the sniper to remain crouched and still whilst pointing at the floor where the claymore is to be placed (maybe for 5 seconds or so?). This would prevent snipers just running about and lobbing them in front of people.

I think Ghost Recon had a similiar feature where a circular progress bar would show up everytime placed a mine or explosive.

At least in 2142 a bullet from the Zeller sniper destroys APM mines (claymores)
I like the idea of the delay while placing one though. Would help sometimes

I dont think the OP was talking about taking choppers out with a jet, but from the ground. As i said, its easy if you can use certain tactics.

well its easy yeah if you do the right thing, but most players seem like they dont have clue what they are doing.

either they sit in the same AA gun all round lmao or snipe in the same spot, so they accuse you of cheating when your in a jet

players in bf2 get wound up very easily i have noticed throughout the time i have played :p

I just wish the sniper class could carry 50 claymores. Triple the explosion radius too. In fact, so big they kill people in other servers.

thing is with claymore mines, if u want to keep the game accurate, a claymore is either command detonated or by motion sensor and it kills troops out to 100 yards or soft skinned vehicles eg humvees at 50 yards its a high explosive shotgun

I used to use both of those approaches, the best laugh was having 3 jeeps on the docks hiding under the gantry. We used to destroy chopper after chopper after chopper ;)

I used to play BF2 some time ago, that was mainly with my friend though, teaming up with someone you know in the choppers or a tank was good fun, specially using vent instead of the ingame comms. Kinda stopped playing it, I always go through phases. I never liked the planes and artillery though. Getting artilleried over and over is just annoying.

My brother in law started playing it, he only plays on no vehicles servers though.

I really liked the BF2142 demo, because there was no artillery in it and the planes are a lot less powerful... Is there any kind of airstrike capability in the final game?

Nothing more satistying than hitting a chopper or a plane with a tank round :D

That said when I stopped playing BF2 it was mainly because the games had degenerated into constant respawns with flyboys blowing up all the AA placements over and over.... yawn.

Planes Use to be much more powerful then they are now, so yes consider yourself lucky indeed, its not hard to take down a Plane, unless the Pilot is smart and knowsn where the AA sites are and Mobile AA Vehicles Spawns and Constantly checking his 6.
Most people who rant about Planes, tend to be people who cant fly them and hate that they get owned by them all the time.
I would suggest You play Infantry Only, or Get in Armour as Engineer, dont bother sitting in AA waiting for Planes to go by, just asking to be killed.

The flyboys will love Project Reality 0.6 which is due out very shortly. Some of the maps are 20!!! times bigger than say Karkland. (16km2) Plus you can fly about 10 times higher now as they worked out how to change the ceiling (plus there are 3D clouds  ) so you can have some proper dog fights now. :)
