I was thinking about getitng a hold of this game, but have been put off by the amount of versions and so forth so was wondering if someone would help me out?

I had the same problem with HL2, glad someone put me in the right direction.

So what versions of BF2 are there? Is BF1 to be considered and is there a futurisitic robot version of this game or am i tripping-confused?

Cheers people. :D

Theres 3 versions of Battlefield 2 out i beleive -

Battlefield 2 - Just BF2
Battlefield 2 Deluxe Edition - BF2 + Special Forces Expansion
Battlefield 2 The Complete Edition - BF2 + SF Expansion + Both Downloadable Booster Packs

And the futuristic one is Battlefield 2142, which you can get alone or Deluxe Edition (includes the Northern Strike booster pack).

Both of which, i spent countless hours packing in, loved both games :).

looks like this

Bf2 is the best imo

I've seen a pack for £26, with a red (the one your showing) green, blue & yellow 2 in the pack, i've no idea what they are and if they are worth it.

Edit:

Battlefield 2: Special Forces (Expansion Pack): Join the world's most elite and deadly forces: SEAL, SAS, Russian Spetsnaz, MEC Special Forces, Rebel, or Insurgent. Deploy tear gas, flash-bang grenades, night vision goggles, and other Special Forces weapons and gadgets to take control of eight new maps.

Battlefield 2: Euro Force (Booster Pack): Take the powerful European Union into action as you battle for control of three new Asian maps. Capture enemy territory with the help of seven new weapons and four new vehicles, including battle tanks, attack copters, rifles, an anti-tank gun and more.

Battlefield 2: Armored Fury (Booster Pack): The battle moves to American soil on three new maps from the Alaskan pipeline to the prairies of the Midwest. Attack or defend the US in six new vehicles including radar-equipped scout choppers.

Is what it reckons, is it worth getting them?

wow so many!

I get the idea now though,

Bit like COD2 (1942) COD4 (2) and the COD(say)6 (2142)

There's loads of expansion packs for 1942, does the Battlefield 1942: The WWII Anthology include them all and how long ago are these all from, will they look dated?>

I highly recommend BF1942 and then the Desert Combat mod. Possibly even the DCX mod on top of that as well.

I bought BF2 but sold it and just kept Desert Combat, personally I think it's so much better! :D

All you need is a copy of Battlefield2 patched to 1.41 & then get yourself on a 64 man Infantry only server, There is No better online gaming experience & it's my gaming Heaven

Couldn't have put it better! Battlefield 2 is still the best fps/strategic war game out their!

See you on the battlefield soldier! :)

Probably worth getting special forces just for the extra unlocks, or find some nice person to play a round of special forces on their system using your account.

Its an excellent game, its the only game I keep coming back to, even after buying a 360 with Halo 3, COD4 etc (which I just couldn't get on with).

yep only game I keep going back too.

its a game you must have in your collection, all I do is play online with that.
together with project reality mod, its a must for any FPS fan ;)

Its quite impressive that a 3 year old game still looks good and hasn't been bettered.

2142 was a step backwards IMHO, never got on aswell with that.

I hope BF3 brings similar gameplay, just with bigger maps and more players online.

I'm a big COD fan, you think this will suit me then?

I clanned COD & Loved it, Tried COD2, Meh, Fell in love with BF2, Tried COD4 PC&360 Good for some in your face Brutality for short periods but BF2 64 man Infantry only servers still Pawn All.

Yea probably, but BF2 requires teamwork. Working in squads will make it more fun.
If COD is your thing then go on infantry only servers, no jets dropping stuff on you or tanks crushing you

Seconded:D still a big online following for this game, graphics aren't up to BF2 standard but there are no stat padders & few lamers to spoil the game like in BF2,

I'm an online player novice.

I used to play online with the original Half Life many moons ago but i've always struggled with keyboards so never bothered.

But i've got a snipa pad on its way and when i get used to that i want some online fun. Got COD4, fancied a few others as well.

I don't really have a style, not sure what i would like and would like, something simple to pick up and understand would be good.
