Battlefield 2?

I highly recommend BF1942 and then the Desert Combat mod. Possibly even the DCX mod on top of that as well.

I bought BF2 but sold it and just kept Desert Combat, personally I think it's so much better! :D

ARGGGGHHHH!!!!

Desert Combat capture the flag.....without doubt THE most infuriating, frustrating, difficult and downright unfair CTF game in existance..:D it has cost me 2 broken mice and 1 smashed keyboard..:) such was the fustration level it induced upon me.

Players who constantly camp the flag with tanks,C4, RPG etc,etc....just evil.

Good fun though...

I'm a BF2 aficionado as well. I'm wondering about COD4. Whats all the fuss about? Is it worth buying? Is it better than BF2 in the gameplay stakes?

I've just started to get back into BF2, and if I'm enjoying it so much again is it worth buying COD4?

Thanks.

If you like the teamplay/squadplay of BF2 then maybe give COD4 a miss. I enjoy both but as Minstadave says, BF2 has more depth and actually requires tactics etc
Of course COD4 has an amazing single player game though

All you need is a copy of Battlefield2 patched to 1.41 & then get yourself on a 64 man Infantry only server, There is No better online gaming experience & it's my gaming Heaven

No better experience? I played bf2 from it was out for about a year to 18 months and it was painfully obvious that infantry combat was crap and relied on nothing more than a game of who was faster to hammer the prone button. It was rare in that game that people ever had infantry fights standing up or just crouched. Instead all you seen was people bouncing to prone every time they spotted an enemy.

I stopped playing BF2 just after Xmas once I bought my 360 but this thread has tempted me to load it back up.

Decent IO servers kick for dolphin diving, but its been reduced a lot by the patches anyway.

Either way id say the infantry combat in the bf series has so far been crap and its obvious the main focus of the gmae is on vehicle combat. Ideally the infantry combat should be seamless and feel like you're playing a regular fps. But that grid aiming system they had just made the combat feel like some kind of budget fps game with good vehicle combat thrown in.

Looking forward to see if bf3 can improve on bf2.

BF2 is still fun.

I used to play it regularly a few years ago, and recently started playing it again with my son.

If you do buy the complete collection, registering those Booster Packs can be a nightmare. Took me a good while to work out how to do it, and until you've registered them you can't play them.

What is the latest patch version for BF2 please? A lot of servers disconnect me saying that I'm running a modified version of the game??

I loved BF2, played it for hours, but then patch 1.4 came and ruined it a bit for me. Now my problem is that my disc is cracked in the middle so I can't install it again :(

Latest patch is 1.41

BF2 is now the only game I still play. I agree with the comments about the infantry fighting tho, it can be very fustrating if you've come from a precision fps like CS etc, as the shot devation can be quite amazingly bad with BF2. But saying that, once you put in the hours and get used to the engine, you really cant beat it.

The only trouble is, if you're new to the game, then I doubt you'll get enough time without dieing to really improve much, as most people who play it have been playing it for years and know all the tricks.

Also, decent gameplay really revolves around finding a good server with decent, sensible players. The experience you get from just jumping on a random EAUK public server and playing there, compared with jumping on your faithful old regular server, with people you've been playing with for years is like night and day. Getting a good squad, with all your old buddies, who all know their jobs and what needs to be done is really what keeps me and many others playing still for all this time.

Anyone know where I could get BF2: Deluxe Edition on the web?

I have it but as I stated earlier, my disc has cracked :( and I really want to play it again.
