Battlefield 3 RETAIL Performance Thread

i5 2500k @ 4.6Ghz
8GB 1600Mzh RAM
6870 1Gb

1920 x 1080 res

Games runs very consistently and well, no real stuttering or crashing, settings on "high" getting me 45-60fps, MSI Afterburner shows approx 900Mb VRAM useage.

Maxed out ULTRA settings also plays OK, again no stuttering, consisten but 30-40fps, and not as great to play but looks pretty, VRAM useage shows about 970mb

Got another 6870 arriving tommorow for Crossfire so hope that boosts perforamnce on ultra :)

With another 6870 you will defo be playing on Ultra, let me know what the performance increase is like :)

Yeah good job, it's just ****ed MY windows up.
You should be banned for this, recommending highly suspicious and hack-fisted software that has ruined thousands of hours' worth of stuff.
I now have to reinstall Windows and redownload BF3 amongst other things, and bandwidth costs money. Nice one.

Easy. I know it's screwed it for you, but DS used to be highly recommended, you can't blame him if it worked for him, or has picked up the recommendation from someone else.

Try a windows repair as first port of call. Otherwise and install straight over the top of your's.

I would double check, you may not need to redownload BF3.

Getting stable 60fps here on my 6870 at 1080p. Medium settings, I know I could probably crank it to high but I'd rather have smooth gameplay than some more eye candy. Sticking to 11.9 too. The regular AMD drivers are bad enough already, I'll be damned if I'm gonna try the betas.

I can confirm that the latest NVIDIA driver can reduce vram usage. 1600MB-ish reduced down to 1400MB-ish.

I hope ATI do the same. I tried cranking up a few settings to Ultra (Texture, Shadow and Mesh) and noticed my VRAM usage go from 1600MB to 1998MB. The game ran quite well averaging at 50fps but after a few minutes it started suttering really bad. The game would freeze for a seconds and MSI showed the FPS go down to 1! I can only assume this is due to the fact my 5850's only have 1GB of VRAM.

It's a shame because after seeing what thte game looks like on these Ultra/High settings I really want to play it like this. There is definently a big difference between High and Ultra.

I was thinking of selling my 5850s and getting two 2GB 6950s. I doubt any of the new 7xxx series cards will be faster than two 6950s. Am I mad for upgrading for just one game? lol

Glad you got it working :) Still baffled at how well DICE optimised this game

And it's so much more enjoyable when it's running smoothly. :) I will have to try out some more ultra settings later, my fps seems to have room for it. Catalystcreator is working on another cap I'm sure, so when they get that performance should improve again.

On what settings harmony?

Sorry. Settings are at 1920x1200, tried to max out everything, including MSAA 4X, 90 Field of View (actually what FoV is equivalent as human eye?). However not sure about Motion Blur so I left the bar in the middle.

Just wait for AMD to get the drivers sorted out mate then decide.

Regarding driversweeper, I tried it last night and had no problems. Seemed to get rid of a load of crap and played all my games for hours with no problems.

for all those debating x-fire...new cards etc. Single 580GTX play it pretty godam well.well pleased with purchasing one of those for this game.
Multiplayer at 1900x1200...4xAA, 16xAF, a mixture of high/ultra and I get 50-80fps all the time. (some high to keep frame rates high)
Single player, all maxed out 4xAA, 16xAF...plays easy. Minimum about 50fps.

o....and Afterburner has never shown to use more than 1300-1400 MB of VRAM, on 64man servers. Usually arround 12-1300MB.

This is post I needed to see to make me feel better about forking out £400 for a graphics card! THANK YOU!

Enjoy the card mate, I have a gtx 580 1.5gb CUii and it's flying threw the game too, SLI or CFX on high end cards is not needed for this game unless you want to game at 120 FPS constant on a single screen :D, you only need SLI or CFX for multi screen setups and resolutions like 2500 x 1600 with lots of AA. It looks stunning and I have really enjoyed playing it in SP and MP. I think the topic of 3gb cards required is well and truly buried now. People that judge beta code on what the release code will be is silly as we have seen now, release code goes threw massize amounts of optimising and bugs removed that can cause memory leaks to fill up VRAM with useless data as we see and new drivers for the games are written to make sure the new code runs well and does not cause memory leaks to fill the VRAM up with useless data too. Also future updates to the game and drivers will only make things better too.
