Battlefield 3 RETAIL Performance Thread

That's weird, I've not seen it use anywhere near as much VRAM on Caspian or any other map on Ultra, same res with 2xMSAA/16xAF and HBAO.

Maybe ATI cards do it differently...

The game does use a lot of system RAM though, around 2GB at times.

On average i get between 55 and 90fps on most maps (1920x1080 max everything).

although it does drop below that on caspian occasionally.

Is anyone with a crossfire setup seeing 99% gpu usage on both cards here? Im tempted to re-download the entire thing

edit: disable crossfire and GPU1 is now hitting 99% as expected so this is definantly a driver issue. I need ATI drivers that will give me 99% usage for both cards in Battlefield 3!!!

Proably because you have 1280Mb on the card and he has 2000Mb :) or do you have the 2500mb version?

Btw with the latest nvidia drivers my watt from the wall is about 40/50watt less fduring bf3

Just 11.11 CAP3 afaik.

Everything is running smoothly (all current games I'm playing) so no need to move to 12.2/12.3 with newer CAP's

Those are the ones I had, foolishly put 12.2 on and BF3 fps plumited. Used driver sweeper to get rid of all traced of 12.2 and any CAPs then put 11.11 CAP3 back on but Im still only getting 50-70% usage on both cards :(

I never could understand how some people swore by that app when you've just proven how useless it is.

12.1a + 8.95 Drivers + 12.1 CAP3 and still only getting around 50% GPU usage on each 5850. This has to be a Battlefield 3 issue, I'm going to uninstall and download it again tomorrow.

GTX680 is seeming more appealing by the day...

Vsync is now off aswell as the framelimiter in Afterburner and still only seeing 50-70% GPU usage. As this is only in BF3 I've uninstalled it and downloading it again. Will report back with my findings.

Having reinstalled Battlefied 3 (uninstalled in Win7, deleted all folders associated with it) I am now using 99% on both GPUs again :) However when I switch on the MSI Afterburner framlimiter to 59 and VSYNC in game the GPU usage goes back to around 70%... is that normal? Logically it is because Im limited the FPS, without these two on I'm getting around 80fps but 99% GPU usage.

Yes that's correct. I have a similar set up to you and enable vsync and cap my frames at 59 to make it smooth without the mouse lag. Your cards only have to work enough to provide 59fps so that's why you are seeing 70% usage on each card. Your cards will run cooler also as opposed to playing with both cards using 100% all the time :)
