Battlefield 4 Recommended Requirements - 3GB Vram

We don't even know the cost yet of the 290X. Its speculated to come in at just under 780 pricing (backed up by Gibbo) so a 8gb version will naturally be more expensive. Whatever happens it will still be much cheaper than a titan so i dont really a see a problem here. Either way need to wait for the product launch.

Not to sure about that Kaap, if there is one thing the 4k benchmarks showed us is that the Titans performance gap does not increase at 4k, even though it has double the vram of the 7970, it holds at around 37.5%. It is more likely bus/ram bandwidth becomes the bottleneck and this is why I am expecting a surprising result with the 290x at 4k and for vram not to matter. I would also expect that a pure Vram bump for the titan to 8GB would not close the gap.

Not sure if this has been posted before, if so my bad. "Battlefield-4-Beta-1920-x-1080-Ultra-Settings-NVidia-770-GTX-4GB"

theres also test with VRAM seems 2GB is fine for 1080p

and even tho its taking up 1900mb doesn't mean it needs all off it

1.5GB will prob be fine

This would actually explain why I get random slowdowns...hitting the gfx memory limit on my 690...

Only thing is it does it with everything set to LOW / OFF too.

1750mb ono at 1920 x1200, x2 msaa, hbao on and post turned off rest on ultra. If i run windows in basic mode thats another 200mb saved. For some weird reason i cant turn off aero in the beta exe when it launches. But still, i wont commit and say that 2gb of vram will be enough for the final release of bf4. I havent got a chrystal ball, and if i had a good one. Vram use of gpu's would be the last thing on my mind.:D

As requested by LtMatt in another thread, i'm posting my findings regarding vram usuage in BF4 here. I found a nice TDM server running paracal storm 24/7 with only 100 tickets so i tested each setting bellow for one round each.

1440p - Ultra Settings - 4x MSAA = 2033MB peak Vram usage
1440p - Ultra Settings - 2x MSAA = 2028MB peak Vram usage
1440p - Ultra Settings - 0x MSAA = 2017MB peak Vram usage

I then noticed that there is an Anti aliasing post process setting so i tried messing with that too. It was set to high in the last three tests.

1440p - Ultra Settings - 0x MSAA - AA postprocessing LOW = 2010MB peak Vram usage
1440p - Ultra Settings - 2x MSAA - AA postprocessing OFF = 2008MB peak Vram usage
1440p - Ultra Settings - 0x MSAA - AA postprocessing OFF = 1858MB peak Vram usage

So there we go. At 1440p i run into my vram limit with any kind of AA turned on. FPS is around 80 most of the time but as soon as the vram limit hits it drops down way low and i get a short but noticeable freeze. You could almost call it a stutter but its slightly longer then that.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a friend who also experiences the same issue with a 2gb sli setup at 1440p maxed details.

Did you disable Aero Jeps? This saves a nice chunk of VRAM. I always right clicked the .exe and added disable desktop composition/disable visual themes.

This allowed me to use ultra details in BF3 at 5760x1080 without hitting the limit.

No i haven't disabled aero! I knew it used ram but didnt realise that included vram. I'll give that a shot and see how it goes :)

I'm not massively fussed with my findings though. Previously I was seeing much higher vram usage and was hanging around the 30fps mark on a mix of high and medium settings. Last night I disabled and then re-enabled SLI and then re-applied my monitor overclock and its now running amazingly (when its not hitting that limit at least). No idea what the problem was

**Edit**
It seems there is no way to disable areo in windows 8.1 :(

Good call Greg. At high resolutions even 100mb of vram can make a difference

Watch the mb's and the Gb's will take care of themselves :D
