Battlestar Galactica (now containing quite minor spoilers)

I'm also about to get into this, watched the mini-series a few weeks ago and rather enjoyed it, so I've got season one on Blu-ray on the way.

There's a lot of filler in season's 3 and 4. Stuff that really could have been removed, but was put in at the behest of the network in order to capture new audiences who were put off by the arc heavy format of the first two seasons (there's filler in season two as well, but it's not so apparent - season one is by far the most condensed and focused of the lot).

But despite that, it's still one of my favourite shows ever.

There is a fair amount of filler if you look at it objectively, but at least they made the effort to make it relevant to the overall plot/situation, so that it adds to the overall story. It's a shame the same can't be said for allot of other shows.

Its a great show, might want to give Caprica a watch too although not nearly as good, its sort of a spin off prequel.

Although caprica is a complete spin off and unrelated in many ways to the core BSG story, I reccomend stopping BSG at the season break in season 4 (episode 10) watching caprica and then continuing with BSG as you will see quite a few things in the last half of season 4 in a different light (you will understand the motivations of some characters, etc. a bit better) which IMO adds massively to the atmosphere.

It's such a shame caprica wasn't aloud to progress, it could have been a great show!

Yep, I wanted to see more!

Personally I don't think they treated it right, iirc they broke it up with gaps and lets face it, nerds/geeks don't sit down in front of the TV to watch these shows, they download them so it dumped in neilsen ratings.

Should probably finish watching this show, lost interest near the start of last season but might as well find out how it ends.

Brilliant show, had me hooked all the way through, and I've watched it a couple of times since. But, the final episode almost ruined it - one of the worst cop-outs by writers ever. So watch it, but maybe just don't watch the last episode!

I really enjoyed the final episode.
Bought closure and in a fair way.

Out of interest - what did you think of the final episode of Lost?

You NEED the mini series... Apart from it being totally mouthwateringly awesome it sets the series off in style!

Absolute must! You'll be glad you did! Im at the end of season 2 and I still think the Mini Series was the best thing Ive seen so far! Awesome!

I'm glad some one liked it :)

I gave up with Lost around the time they started on recursive timelines, which really annoys me as it can often be an excuse for lazy writing, so I'm afraid I can't really comment. From what people have told me about the way it ended though it would have really annoyed me as well.

Maybe it's more of a problem with me....

I wasn't going to say anything :)

Not enough action for the core BSG audience. Essentially they were making a show for the niche viewers who only wanted drama and intrigue. A niche group within a niche group since people who didn't watch BSG were never going to watch Caprica.

Thats why i'm hoping that Blood and Chrome is better becuase being set during the 1st war it can once again have the shootin' and the killin' and the frakin' and the drama, emotion and so on that BSG did so well.

Watched the mini series.

Holy freaking poop!

Absoloutly amazing. I have seen, and enjoyed, some good tv in my time but that was pretty much perfect! Well paced, great story, good charcters and built the tension really, really well. I was riveted to the tv for the whole mini series and just couldn't look away. Was really nervous/excited about what was going to happen.

It was that good it even got my lass interested, she was trying to ignore it but ended up making me replay the first 45mins so she knew what was going on and she hates anything sic-fi related :p

I actually found it quite boring, and I normally like the deeper story-driven stuff. I'll need to go back to it again I think as it's been a while. I only watched the mini series and season 1, couldn't face season 2.

I may have been put off by my wife moaning at how rubbish it was though, maybe I'll set her up with desperate housewives/ugly betty/glee and watch it on my own! :)
