Well unless you get BIS its not going to work the way you want it to...if you dont want the BIS then the way you are doing it is going to be the only workaround for you.

but I don't understand why you can't ?

You cant because BB's are set up to be used with a BIS plan or a BES which is used by companies. In any case it wont work without the addition of a BIS plan...now had you asked in here before buying it then i or someone else would have told you this....why people do not do their homework on these things is beyond me. A BB is only useful when you have a BIS plan simple as that...yes its an extra £5 a month depending on your network but its needed with a BB...its why most if not all network include the BIS when you buy a BB.

As spawn wrote, here my experience,

after countless hours trying to setup my mrs 9780 via home wifi, its because the BB internet traffic (emails/BBM/browser) is passed through BB servers, the wifi you use, say your home wifi, is the transport mode to BB BIS/BES servers. There is a BB icon on the 9780 and other models the EDGE/3G is CAPS lock to indicate BB is connected to BIS/BES.

PC -> Wifi Router/Switch -> Broadband connection = internet

BB -> Wifi Router -> Broadband -> BES/BIS = Internet.

NO BIS/BES = no internet on BB, even if you have a 192.168.x.x address.

Hope this explains.
This is my understanding, if its wrong please correct.

* I worked this out and solved it by placing the BB on static IP and port forwarded to BB Server IP address.

Thanks for the info guys, :/ I just got a refund, yes I shouldve looked into it before making the purchase.. Iphone it is then
