BBC license fee proposals...

again, re: 'learn to read' I've not made an assumption whether he did either way... like I said read my posts/arguments properly whether he pirated or not is inconsequential. In the relevant post he'd not stated piracy and you made no reference to any other posts that stated otherwise. I'll deal with and make arguments based on the information actually presented thanks.

Download them? Buy later when complete set comes out if i want it.

Seems pretty cut and dry to me?

Adblocks every website, downloads every TV show.

What a genius. If everyone did that there would be no money to make the tv show or keep the website running.

I never have BBC anything on.
In fact, I dont even watch ITV anything other than maybe a bit of breakfast TV on a monday.

Other than that, nothing. They are both worthless.

I'm quite happy to pay the licence fee considering how much BBC content I watch or listen to. Not forgetting other channels like gold, Dave etc which are basically chock full of programmes that without the BBC simply would not exist.

Any proposed changes by the government are only to appease their Murdoch backed paymasters and will do nothing but end up costing us more money if they get their way and we will lose a truly independent (politically) broadcaster. Much like with the NHS there is a political and ideological agenda going on here and that is the real enemy, not the BBC.

Only thing i watch is Match of the Day, although I've never had to buy TV license, having not lived alone yet :p

For £150 a year? I'll stick with Netflix, youtube, etc :)

No issues with this as far as I'm concerned. I've always been very happy with the BBC and the multiple services they provide. I detest advert breaks during programmes and even having to skip through them if I record something on another channel gives me the hump.

It's what, 40p/day? Absolutely nothing and I'm actually quite happy that the spongers who have been able to avoid paying but still use the services provided may now be mopped up. Let's have some high profile prosecutions for licence fee avoidance!

People saying either pay up, or don't watch it are missing the point.

The licence fee is STILL required if you watch Sky, Virgin, BT, Freeview or Freesat.

My issue is that it is a legal monopoly. The two biggest monopolies in the UK (BBC and BT) and two of the most corrupt organizations in the country.

Inflation rises are not fair as most employees don't get a wage rise with inflation.

Chris Evans said presenters should get a pay cut......that's only half the story. If they pay the presenters less money, they may go elsewhere (Netflix, Amazon, Sky)

The BBC 'SHOULD' be totally unbiased, but it's not!

There is literally nothing apart from the news in the morning that I watch on the BBC anymore. Even that is just through habit and I can get my news elsewhere (and most often do because TV news is usually out of date by several hours). BBC news is also too biased so I use it as background noise rather than take it too seriously.

Having lived in the US, where the television is beyond abysmal, besieged by adverts and bias and having travelled around most of the world where the situation isn't much better, the BBC is fantastic and should be valued. It's quite right that you shouldn't be able to watch without contributing. It's an institution we should be proud of and do our utmost to maintain.

If you don't want to pay the TV licence, fine.

Either don't watch BBC or iPlayer live TV or continue to watch it and hope you don't get caught. *shrug* (Just don't bitch about it if you do :p)

I'm happy to pay for the licence, I don't watch a huge amount of BBC but what they do make (especially drama) is usually of a very good quality. Though I torrent most of the stuff I want to watch anyway, even when it's available to watch on live TV, as I like to watch it in my own time.

For example, The Walking Dead, I'll torrent the show from the US airing and save it up to watch once most of it has come in (I can't stand watching one per week) so I end up watching it after it's even been aired in the UK. I know it's technically illegal but I could record it on my Sky box and do the same, so I don't see the difference and tbh don't care about the legal status.

I pay for Sky and I go to the cinema prob ~ 30 times a year, so I contribute more than most into the media coffers.

They should have kept the tv licence fee frozen, and implemented new revenue streams.
All new cars have a radio, £25 levy for every new car sold, £25 on a average £15k car isn't noticeable cost wise.
Same for tv's £10 levy or similar.

I can't, because i still own and operate a device that can receive BBC.

My PS4 can receive live BBC television, I don't pay for a licence.

What about for those who don't watch television at all, like myself?

I get that the UK quality is superior to some parts of the world but saying we should be proud of it, and actively contribute is an absurd statement. I'm sure the UK does many things of high quality which I do not contribute to.

Just because you hide a tax, it doesn't make it any less of a tax.

This is a very common mistake people make. You are required to own a TV licence even if you don't watch the BBC. Sky, Virgin, BT, Freeview or Freesat all require it.

If you don't pay, you are limited to Netflix or Amazon prime.

I believe the exception is Now TV which still requires it.
