BBC license fee proposals...

It always amazes me that people say they do not watch live TV and haven't in over 12 months, I can only assume these people actually spend a lot of time watching TV, but torrent a lot of the shows on TV.

That, and they are also people who:

A) Live alone
B) Do not have kids

Or people who use lots of on demand services?

The BBC is not making good programs for a long time.. What they are showing now are ** In future, can you please fully star swear words - EVH **
They forced us to paid for crap shows..

Now they want us to pay for BBC iPlayer too.. What a joke..

Why can't TV manufacturers make TV without TV tuner. Just a big massive monitor for streaming videos...

Just my two cents.

I never watch live TV either. Kodi, Netflix and YouTube covers all my needs. I watched some of the Olympics but that was on catch up.
Youtube, netflix and the like is about all I watch these days.
YouTube and Netflix is all I need.

What is there worth watching on youtube?

Skimming through my youtube browsing history it's all music and video game clips.

The trending stuff is all laughably ********.

Well I cannot speak for other people but I use Prime and Netflix and the money I would spend on a TV licence I spend on seasons or box sets for things not covered by the two above .The price of a licence covers a lot of seasons worth of bluerays if you buy a little after peak. Although a season is often £30 it soon drops in price if you wait a little bit. I find it a far better way to watch TV then live TV. Unless you are into live sports I don't see why you would bother with live TV. Its nowhere near as good as the alternatives.

Well I think iPlayer is brilliant, and people who aren't entitled to shouldn't be able to use it. How ever this is unenforceable.

They should just put adverts on it that go away once you've registered.

I have never, and will never pay for a TV license. Sure we had one at the family house, but since I have moved out I have never felt the urge to watch live TV. I don't miss it. YouTube and Netflix is all I need. If they want me to pay for iPlayer then I shall simply not watch iPlayer anymore. The 1 or 2 programs I watch are not worth £145 a year. Where as there are tonnes of amazing shows on Netflix which I will happily pay for. Most of the F1 is available on C4 on demand. I'll happily watch a couple of ads to see it.

The BBC is old and archaic, and they have barely any content the younger generation are interested in. They need to get with the times to be honest.

Must have looked at it at a really dry time then as there are always plenty of documentaries on there. Only recently was the New Zealand one, along with a load of others. Unfortunately they are outnumbered by strictly etc because so many people like them, and they are cheap to make. One of the reasons the BBC is about the only broadcaster that can make properly good nature documentaries. No commercial companies can willingly spend several million and up to 5 years (think that's how long it took for Planet Earth and the follow up docs) making them.

As for live TV, I think it's more of a kid (young, rather than teens) and female thing now. In our household we haven't had live TV since moving almost a year ago. I don't miss it at all. We watch catchup and on demand stuff instead. The same stuff, without the dross, when we want it. That said my other half does want live TV as she misses having it on in the background... Needless to say I'm not trying very hard to get it working, because I find the whole "background" TV thing maddening. Either watch it, or don't.:p Same with music, either have it on so you can enjoy it, or don't have it on - not the volume where you can just hear something going on, but can't actually hear the words or tune, making it just annoying white noise you can't tune out. :(

Couple of examples:

:p

The biggest difficulty is actually finding decent stuff on there. There are a fair few channels that once found are pretty good. Unfortunately the recommended rubbish is just that.

I'm a car guy. There is LOADS of car stuff on YouTube for me to watch. The BBC has **** all to do with cars, most recent top gear was a joke.

Yup, that's pretty much me lol!

I don't watch live, most of what I watch is on Netflix and its only a few times a week. Anything else, downloaded.

Yep, I resemble that comment.

Although in all honesty, I do watch/record quite a bit of live TV too.

So.... You mean a monitor then

I didn't get it either.
1, a TV is cheaper than a monitor
2, you don't have to use the aerial

Basicaly he just wantes the big tv but no areal socket or tuner which could be cheaper still for use for internet services.

But i suspecy the cost of a tuner is so low that they're just included for the hell of it

They can find out if you use iplayer by tracing your i.p through the app or website.

I dont watch crappy tv, netflix and torrent for me. They can blow me, still waiting for the day they come round so i can show them my uncabled tv plugged into apple tv
